Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Now in current days, many medical research projects are funded by private companies but i believe that research should be carried out by government rather than private companies and individuals.
Firstly, Government only pay attention on public health directly because it is the responsible task for them. They never think to compromise with any research and health related regulatory. Government directly connected to health bodies and they provides funds for research projects like innovation of new drugs, vaccinations and advance medical instruments. Behind this they don't find their profit, governments only concentrates on public health. Government provides fund for many medical research like new arriving disease vaccine and drugs which disease were rarely found. Government not give all authorities of medical research to private companies and individuals because it directly connected to the public.
In contrast, Private companies and private bodies have more advance technology and research projects. Many pharmaceutical companies have their own research sectors and scientists. Although they work more efficiently than the government bodied, but they also pay attention on their business and their profit first. Pharmaceutical companies also funding for many medical project, innovation of many rare disease drugs and vaccines. Private bodied and individuals also mind the public health and issues but they are not much serious like government.
In conclusion, Private pharmaceuticals and individuals have more funds for research rather than government but I strongly believe that medical research projects should funded by government. If private companies and individuals want to fund they can join the government medical research projects in combination.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you favour government funding, and you discuss both government and private-sector research, with relevant examples such as vaccines, drugs and medical instruments. However, the response only partly develops the comparison. For instance, you say governments focus on public health and companies prioritise profit, but you do not explain how government oversight or private-sector expertise affects research outcomes in practice. The final suggestion that private funders could work with government is relevant but needs further explanation. The response is also one word below the required 250-word minimum; the nine words copied from the task prompt are excluded from the count. Develop your reasons with a specific example and explain the benefits of your proposed partnership.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting views, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking phrases such as “Firstly,” “In contrast,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes repetitive: the first body paragraph repeats that government funds research and prioritises public health without clearly building a sequence of distinct points. The contrast paragraph also shifts between companies’ technology, efficiency, funding and public concern without showing how these ideas connect. Some references, such as “Behind this,” are unclear. Organise each paragraph around one main claim, then explain and illustrate it, using more precise links between cause, evidence and conclusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “medical research projects,” “pharmaceutical companies,” “vaccinations,” and “research sectors,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “regulatory” and “innovation.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “advance medical instruments” would be more naturally expressed as “advanced medical equipment,” while “new arriving disease” does not clearly convey the intended meaning. “Government bodied” and “private bodied” are also unsuitable forms. Repeated use of “fund,” “research,” and “public health” limits flexibility. Build a wider set of accurate collocations for discussing funding, oversight, research priorities and commercial incentives.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a concession with “Although” and a conditional proposal in the conclusion. However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur in basic sentence patterns as well as longer structures. Examples include “they provides funds,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “research projects should funded,” which is missing “be.” In “Although they work more efficiently than the government bodied, but…,” the clause is incorrectly joined with “but.” Articles, plurals and sentence punctuation also need attention, as in “many medical project” and the lower-case “i” after the opening sentence. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, passive forms and clause boundaries, then proofread each sentence for complete and correctly punctuated structure.
