Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In your opinion, do you think that research should be carried by private companies, individuals or government?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, medical reserach innovations are finacially supported by the private companies. I belive that funds should be provided by the government because, authorities have huge capital to support the research. In addition, people can use its benefit for cheap cost.

The primary reason is that governemt has more income to support the project. When project is funded by individuals or private compaines then they may face finacial issues if the allocated budget expemted, this problem may lead to stop research in the middle of the development. However, government can face the situation even if the budget is higher than the esstimated, because it has multiple income sources to support the research untill it is fully developed. For example, In the Usa the research aboubt cancer tablet is still going on since 2004, but the Usa government never stoped funding it since then. if it is funded by the individuals they may stop after 3 years due to budget issues and time.Hence, the government should provide support to projects untill it get success.

The second reason is that public can utilize its uses for low price. When the medical project is supported by the individuals and private companies then after completion of that, they may sell medical products for the high cost as they wish. However, if it is funded by government then it provide benefits to public for low cost, even low income families can afford it. for example, hiv drug research is funded by government which is affordable so, that every one can use it irrespecctive of finacial status to cure disease.

Hence, many people can use its benrfits.

In conclusion, government should fund the projects because of finacial.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you argue that governments should fund medical research, and you give two relevant reasons—greater capacity to sustain projects and the possibility of making treatments affordable. The examples about cancer research and HIV medicine help illustrate these points. This addresses the main question, but the comparison with individuals and private companies is not explored in much depth, and some claims are broad, such as saying government-funded products are low-cost without explaining how funding or pricing policy ensures this. The conclusion also gives only a brief restatement (“because of financial”) rather than summarising your reasoning. Develop the examples and explain the limits or advantages of the other funding options more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “The primary reason,” “The second reason,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with repeated use of “However,” “Hence,” and “For example.” Some references are unclear, particularly “its benefit,” “its uses,” and “it” in the discussion of who funds or provides a treatment. The final sentence is also too abrupt to bring the argument together. Use more precise references and vary the links between ideas, while ensuring each paragraph develops its central point in a clear sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “medical research,” “allocated budget,” “income sources,” “low income families,” and “affordable.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main argument. However, the range is limited and several word-choice or spelling problems make the writing less precise: “research innovations” is awkward in context, “budget expemted” does not express the intended idea clearly, and “utilize its uses” is repetitive. There are also frequent spelling errors, including “finacial,” “governemt,” and “irrespecctive.” Build a more accurate set of collocations for funding, research continuity, and access to treatment, and proofread carefully so these errors do not distract the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “When the medical project is supported … then … they may sell” and a contrast introduced by “However.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but control is uneven: some complex sentences contain errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and punctuation. For example, “government … it provide benefits” needs subject–verb agreement, while “the government should provide support to projects untill it get success” has an incorrect verb form and unclear agreement. Commas also interrupt clauses in places, as in “because, authorities have huge capital.” Aim for consistently accurate sentence patterns, especially when using conditionals, and check agreement and punctuation in each sentence.
