Student answer (Band 4.5)

These days, a lot of medical research projects are sponsored by private companies. This essay will discuss about alot of medical research project that are sponsored by private companies.

To begin with, one of the reasons why research should be carried by private companies because private companies can be so hardworking, private and intellligent to find out informations about medical projects. For instance individuals or government might not be capable of making research about medical projects because the private companies are capable to make research.

On the other hand, private companies are the best people to make research because they are capable of being private and not letting people know about the project that they sponspored. For example, government or individual might announce the research carried out to people in the community which is meant to be private.

In my opinion, government is supposed to provide medical investigation projects supports to the people in the society, area or community because he is known to be the head of the particular society. And private companies and individuals can also help by making research about the medical projects.

To conclude, although private companies and individuals can even support the government with the help of funding the medical research projects which could help the projects to be more faster, so that it wont take long.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the topic and gives a view that government should provide support, while also saying private companies and individuals can contribute. However, the position is not sustained clearly: most of the body argues that private companies should conduct research, and the conclusion focuses on funding without resolving which group should lead. The reasons are also minimally developed. Claims that companies are “hardworking” and can keep projects private are repeated, but the essay does not explain how these qualities improve medical research or give a specific relevant example. The response is 222 words, below the required 250, so the task is not fully developed. To improve, state a clear position and support each main reason with explanation and a concrete example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, an opinion paragraph and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” help signal these sections. However, progression between the ideas is weak: the second paragraph repeats the claim that private companies are best, while the later statement that government should provide support introduces a different position without explaining how the roles fit together. Some links are also mechanical, and the conclusion does not clearly summarise the argument. Build each paragraph around one distinct point, use references that make the relationships between ideas clear, and connect the government’s role to the earlier discussion rather than shifting direction.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary is sufficient to identify the general topic, with terms such as “medical research projects,” “government,” “funding,” and “community.” However, the range is basic and repetitive, especially the repeated use of “private companies,” “capable,” and “research.” Several choices are inaccurate or awkward, including “carried by private companies,” “find out informations,” and “the best people to make research,” which make the argument less precise. There are also spelling errors such as “intellligent” and “sponspored.” Aim for more accurate topic-specific collocations and vary repeated wording; for example, describe companies as “conducting research” and refer to “medical studies” or “research organisations” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response uses mostly simple sentence patterns, with some attempts to form longer sentences using “because,” “which,” and “although.” Meaning is generally understandable, but control is uneven. For example, “one of the reasons why research should be carried by private companies because” lacks a complete grammatical structure, and “government is supposed to provide medical investigation projects supports” has problems with the noun phrase and agreement. The final sentence beginning “although” is also left without a clear main clause. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles and clause structure. Using a few accurately controlled complex sentences would make the reasoning easier to follow.
