Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
In recent years, medical research projects has become a widely discussed issue. While some people believe that medical researches should be carried by private companies or some people, I strongly agree with the statement that such researches should be only conducted by the government itself.
To commence with, one of the most significant reasons is that medical research is a quite sensitive field. This can be attributed to the fact that these researches involves fatal diseases, their treatment and medicines so they needs extra care. For instance, cancer is treated by many process like chemotherapy, medicines, and radioactive waves found out by research. This clearly demonstrates that if wrong research results in a loss of someone's life, so government should undertake it by own.
Another important factor to consider is that medical research need huge budget. Furthermore, private companies and individual persons can not afford the costs for these researches, instead that will effect the quality of research. A particularly good example of this is, when world was affected by the corona virus, researches were conducted all over the world. Among them, the effective researches were those conducted by governments because they had enough finances to cover the expenses. This further supports the idea that medical researches should be led by governments.
In conclusion, although there are different views on performing medical researches, I strongly believe that it should be managed by governments because of the sensitivity of the case and the budgets required. Therefore, private companies and individuals should study the field but contribute to the government and assist them rather than conducting research by their own.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you support government-led medical research, and the conclusion restates this view. You address the choice between government, private companies and individuals, and give two relevant reasons: the sensitivity of the field and the need for substantial funding. The cancer and COVID-19 examples help illustrate these points. This is a developed response, although some claims are broad rather than fully demonstrated—for example, saying that the most effective COVID-19 research was conducted by governments needs a specific example or explanation. Clarify whether private organisations should have no research role or should contribute under government oversight, since your final sentence allows them to assist. More precise support would make the argument more convincing and complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and the conclusion summarises your position. Ideas generally progress logically, and signposting such as “To commence with,” “Another important factor,” and “In conclusion” helps the reader follow the argument. The examples are placed alongside the relevant reasons. However, some linking is mechanical, and a few connections are not expressed smoothly; for instance, “instead that will effect the quality” does not clearly show how limited funding leads to lower-quality research. The final sentence also introduces a qualification about private organisations assisting the government without explaining how this fits your earlier claim that research should be conducted only by government. Make these relationships explicit and vary transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “sensitive field,” “fatal diseases,” “chemotherapy,” “finances,” and “expenses,” so your main points are understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “This can be attributed to the fact that” and “A particularly good example.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “medical researches” is not the natural form, “carried by” is awkward for research, and “radioactive waves” is imprecise in this context. “Effect” is also used where the verb “affect” is needed. Aim for more precise, natural combinations and avoid repeating “researches” by using “research,” “studies,” or “projects” appropriately. These improvements would make your vocabulary more controlled and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concessive opening (“While some people believe…”) and clauses introduced by “because” and “when.” The overall meaning remains clear, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction reduce accuracy. For example, “projects has become” should use a plural verb, while “these researches involves” and “they needs” contain agreement errors. In “medical research need huge budget,” the subject–verb form and article also need attention. The sentence beginning “For instance, cancer is treated…” becomes difficult to follow because of its list and clause structure, and “if wrong research results in a loss…, so government should…” combines clauses incorrectly. Check agreement and articles, and revise long sentences into clearly connected clauses.
