Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. some people believe that private companies and individual should carry out medical research, while other thinks that thegovernment should be responsible for it. In my opinion, the government should take the main responsibility, although private companiesshould also contribute.
Firstly, the government should fund medical research becuase its main aim is to protect public health rather than make a profit . it can support research into serious diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease. Moreover, the government can provide free or affordable treatments for people who cannot afford expensivemedicines. For example , in Pakistan, government- funded hospitals and research centres can help improve healthcare facilities for ordinary citizens.
Secondly, private companies can also play an important role in medicale research. They often have advanced technology, skilled scientists and sufficientfinancial resources to develop new medicines. They can also invest in new treatments and bring them to the market more quickly. However, some companies may focus mainly on making profits and charge high prices for their products . Therefore, the governments shoult monitor thier activities and ensure that medicines remain safe and affordable.
Individuals can contribute by donating money , participating in approved research studies and supporting medical charities. However, they usually do not have enough resources to conduct large-scale medical research independently.
In conclusion, I believe that the government should take the leading role in medicake research , while private companies and individuals shouldsupport these efforts. this cooperation can lead to better trearments and improved public health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: the government should lead, with private companies and individuals contributing. You address all three options and give relevant support, including public-health priorities, company resources and the limits on individuals’ ability to conduct large-scale research. The Pakistan example also helps ground your argument. This meets the task well, but some points are asserted rather than fully explained—for instance, you say government research can improve healthcare facilities without showing how research leads to that outcome. The response is 246 words, four words below the 250-word minimum; the 10 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Add a little development to the less-supported points while meeting the required length.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall progression: it introduces your position, considers government funding, private companies and individuals in separate paragraphs, then concludes consistently. Sequencing signals such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “However” and “In conclusion” make the relationships between points easy to follow. The contrast between companies’ resources and their profit motive is particularly clear. To make the organisation more flexible and polished, rely less on formulaic transitions and connect some ideas through more precise referencing or cause-and-effect links. For example, the final sentence could explicitly show how government oversight of companies supports the affordability and safety discussed in the previous paragraph. Overall, the structure is logical and the reader can follow the argument throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including relevant terms such as “public health,” “large-scale medical research,” “advanced technology” and “affordable treatments.” These choices communicate your ideas clearly, and the response includes some appropriate topic-specific vocabulary. However, several spelling errors and imprecise or awkward expressions reduce accuracy, including “becuase,” “medicale research,” “medicake research” and “better trearments.” Phrases such as “sufficient financial resources” are suitable, but “government-funded hospitals and research centres can help improve healthcare facilities” is broad and could be expressed more precisely. Proofread spelling carefully and build a wider set of accurate collocations for discussing funding, clinical studies and access to treatment; this would make your vocabulary more controlled and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “although private companies should also contribute” and a conditional structure in “if they cannot afford expensive medicines.” Most sentences communicate their meaning, and the paragraphing gives you opportunities to express relationships between ideas. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain, however. In the opening, “some people believe … while other thinks” has inconsistent agreement and number; “the government” also needs a space after “the” in “thegovernment.” There are missing spaces after punctuation and inconsistent capitalisation, such as “. it” and “this cooperation.” Review subject–verb agreement, sentence boundaries, capital letters and spacing, then proofread each sentence. Greater consistency would improve accuracy while preserving your range of structures.
