Student answer (Band 5.5)

As we are in the world where people who have money can make more things impossible to possible, funding a medical research from a private companies willingly is a stepping tone to achieved the objectives of the researchers. For me, I believe that it should be carried by the one who support it and it must be the private companies and the individuals behind it.

Through the help of the private companies in the form of money, the researcher are able to buy the materials they need to use for their research. I belief that moral support from the govenrment also matter but for me its not enough for them to be carried by in this study. Once the medical research finish and become succesful, imagine how many people who suffer from different illness that will cure because of them. Perfect example is the Covid-19, when the world stop, many private companies volunteer to find a cure for this outbreak and fortunately, we find vaccines that will boost our immune system to protect us from it.

I will also acknowledge those individual who join the medical research, I believe not only those who support the research deserve to be carried but also those brains and sleepless days of the researchers. With all their hardwork and dedication, even risking their own health, must be notice. I remember my sister who work in medical field, I can she her dedication to memorize all the tricky term just to be a competent doctor in the future. She believes that learning in this field never stop after you wear a white gown, but you must be a life long learner.

To sum it up, I believe that private companies should be recognize for their support to the research to have the tools that they needed and those individuals who dedicate their self to find a solution to every illness that we are struggling to face.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is identifiable: you favour private companies and individuals, while seeing government support as insufficient on its own. You give relevant reasons, including funding for research materials and the example of COVID-19 vaccine development. However, the response only partly develops the question of who should carry out or fund research. The discussion focuses mainly on financial support and researchers’ dedication, without clearly comparing the roles of private companies, individuals and government. The example about your sister illustrates commitment to medical study, but does not directly show how individuals should fund or conduct research. To strengthen the response, explain the distinct contribution and limitations of each group, then support your preferred arrangement with more directly relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, the body paragraphs give reasons and examples, and the final paragraph restates your position. Linking phrases such as “Through the help,” “I will also acknowledge,” and “To sum it up” help signal the stages of your argument. However, progression is sometimes weakened because ideas within a paragraph do not connect closely: the discussion of your sister’s medical studies shifts away from the question of research funding. Some references, including “them” in the sentence about people being cured, are not fully clear. Build each paragraph around one aspect of the question and use more precise references to make the connections between claims and examples easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “medical research,” “vaccines,” “immune system,” “illness,” and “dedication,” so the main subject is generally clear. There are also attempts at less common expressions such as “moral support” and “competent doctor.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts difficult to understand, for example “a stepping tone to achieved the objectives” and “must be notice.” Spelling errors such as “govenrment,” “succesful,” and “hardwork” also reduce accuracy. Aim to learn common academic collocations for research and funding, and check word forms and spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help express your ideas without changing their intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a conditional idea in “Once the medical research finish and become succesful” and a relative clause in “those who support the research.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction occur throughout. For example, “the researcher are able” needs subject–verb agreement, while “I can she her dedication” appears to have an incorrect verb form that obscures the meaning. The opening sentence is also difficult to follow because its clauses are not controlled clearly. Practise building accurate basic sentences first, then combine them with clauses using “because,” “when” and “who.” Proofread each sentence for a clear subject, verb and tense.
