Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays theres is a growing number of medical research projects are funded by private companies. People think that the research projects should be funded by the government. In my own opnion i agree that the government should be responsible for funding the research projects.
On one hand, the private companied plays a key role at funding the medical research projects. Private companies are well equiped they have well medical equipments for conducting the research also the companies have financies for funding big projects. For instance, private companies invest heavily on research equipment to ensure that the research that they conduct has accurate results with no errors. Also the companies are able to employ researchers who are well equipped with relevant skills and knowledge this enables them conduct most of their research with no challenges. When they are well paid it motivates them doing their research well.
On the other hand, when most research projects funded by private companies it may led to some certain problems since private companies rely mostly on making large profits this will led to the private companies researching on the diseases that affect wealthy areas instead of also focusing on other poorest areas. Nevertheless, the companies will charge more money on some certain medicine so that they can get the money for the research they conducted. The government should fund the research projects to ensure that the research are conducted in all areas not only focusing on the areas that generate more profits like private companies.
In summary, the government should prioritise the medical research as this will help the public health and the society at large. The private and the government and also the individual researcher should work together to improve the medical research and improve the health care sector and research innovation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you believe government should fund medical research, and you explain the concern that profit-driven companies may prioritise diseases affecting wealthier populations and charge more for medicines. These are relevant reasons, and the example about investment in research equipment helps acknowledge the role private companies can play. The response addresses the question, but the comparison is not fully developed: the benefits of private funding receive several points, while the case for government funding is stated more generally. The role of individuals, mentioned in the question, is only briefly included in the conclusion. Develop this aspect and explain more specifically how public funding could improve access or research priorities. (The response includes 8 words copied from the task prompt.)
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signposted by “On one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a concluding paragraph. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. However, some connections are mechanical, and the first body paragraph contains several points joined by “also” without clearly showing how each supports the argument. The shift from describing private companies’ strengths to arguing for government funding could be made more explicit. In the conclusion, “The private and the government and also the individual researcher” is an unclear reference and weakens the final point. Use more precise linking and refer clearly to each group’s role.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “medical research projects,” “research equipment,” “researchers,” “profits,” and “public health,” so the reader can understand the subject and your main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “well equipped with relevant skills and knowledge.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “opnion,” “companied,” “equiped,” and “financies.” Some combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “charge more money on some certain medicine” and “research innovation.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for funding, conducting research, and medicine pricing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “when most research projects [are] funded by private companies it may led to some certain problems” and a reason clause beginning “since.” This shows some range, and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. However, there are several errors in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “theres is” has an incorrect verb form, “the private companied plays” has faulty agreement, and “it may led” should use the base form after “may.” The sentence beginning “Private companies are well equiped” also runs several ideas together without clear punctuation. Practise accurate modal and conditional structures, subject–verb agreement, and sentence boundaries.
