Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In my opinion private companies should be involved in medical research because they provide financial support advanced technology and innovative ideas.Their funding reduces the financial burden from government help researchers made vaccines or other medicines quickly. If I provide example than mentioning Pfizer and BioNTech collaboration to develop a COVID-19 vaccine is significant. This was very helpful in the global fight against that disease. It will significant step regarding employment also as it will open the doors for the jobs of researchers .moreover competition between the companies will encourage the development of better medical treatments and thei priority for public health safety also increases.
private companies can help make medical discoveries available to the public by producing medicines on a large scale and their international network can help the companies to ditribute medicines to different countries .
Companies can also collaborate with universities and hospitals to provide researchers with more laboratories, equipment and technical knowledge.this cooperation will improve the quality of research.
Private companies drive medical innovation by providing the massive financial capital and advanced infrastructure needed to move discoveries from the lab to the pharmacy shelf. Because modern medical trials require billions of dollars and years of rigorous testing, corporations are uniquely equipped to absorb these high financial risks and fast-track drug development. Their profit-driven model fosters a highly competitive environment that sharpens efficiency, encourages technological breakthroughs, and yields cutting-edge medical devices. However, this commercial focus can sometimes lead companies to prioritize lucrative, long-term treatments over less profitable cures or rare diseases, making strict regulatory oversight essential.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you support private companies taking part in medical research, and you give relevant reasons, including funding, technology, competition, wider distribution and collaboration with universities and hospitals. The Pfizer–BioNTech example helps make the argument concrete, while the final paragraph adds a useful qualification about commercial priorities and the need for regulation. However, the task asks whether research should be carried out by private companies, individuals or government, and your response focuses almost entirely on companies. The role of government and individuals is not directly compared or explained. Some points, such as the employment benefit and public-health safety, are mentioned briefly without showing how they support your position. Addressing the alternatives and developing these points would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response contains a generally understandable sequence: it introduces support for private involvement, gives reasons and an example, then discusses distribution, collaboration and possible drawbacks. The final paragraph also provides a relevant counterpoint. However, the organisation is weakened by the lack of clear paragraphing in the first part and by abrupt movement between ideas. For example, the employment point appears suddenly after the vaccine example, and the transition to the final paragraph repeats the claim about companies’ financial and technological advantages rather than clearly advancing the argument. Linking phrases such as “moreover” are used, but connections between some claims remain unclear. Use distinct paragraphs for your main reasons and counterargument, and make each paragraph’s central point explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “financial burden,” “international network,” “technical knowledge,” “regulatory oversight” and “cutting-edge medical devices.” These expressions help communicate ideas about research and commercial involvement, and the later paragraph shows some ambition in vocabulary. However, several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors reduce precision: “provide financial support advanced technology” is unclear, “ditribute” is misspelled, and “thei priority for public health safety” does not express the intended meaning naturally. Some wording is also repetitive, particularly references to funding and advanced technology. Aim for accurate combinations such as “provide funding and access to advanced technology,” and proofread spelling and possessives so that your vocabulary choices remain clear and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple statements and more complex structures, including the sentence beginning “Because modern medical trials require billions of dollars…” and the contrast introduced by “However.” These show an effort to vary sentence forms, and the main argument is usually understandable. Some grammatical and punctuation errors nevertheless affect clarity. In the opening, “Their funding reduces the financial burden from government help researchers…” joins ideas without a clear grammatical link; “It will significant step” is missing a verb; and “this cooperation will improve…” follows a sentence where punctuation and spacing are inconsistent. There are also run-on sentences and inconsistent capitalisation. Separate complete ideas with full stops, check that each clause has a subject and finite verb, and use commas consistently around introductory phrases.
