Student answer (Band 6.0)
Currently, several medical examination are sponsored by private firms. Although individuals and private organizations can make valuable contributions to medical science, I believe government should play a significant role in funding and conducting medical research. In this essay i will discuss about both sides and conclude with my opinion.
on the one hand, one of major advantage of funding by government to research venture is to focuses on societal benefit rather than financial profit. Government can invest in research leading to diseases that effect large number of individuals includes Diabetes, cancer and Heart issues. Additionally, by this government can help and support studies on illness that private companies might ignore because that treatments could not generate much revenue. for example, Government funds can help scientists to investigate new vaccines and medicines to protect society from vulnerable diseases.
On the other hand, private companies play a crucial role in medical research. They also have sufficient amount of financial resources, advanced technology and skilled workers. As a result, they can develop medicines and bring to a market more quickly than public sector. moreover, the competition between the pharmaceutical companies may encourage and motivate innovation and better the medical treatment.
In conclusion, private companies and individuals have significant role in advancing medical science. I believe government should primarily responsible for medical research programs. In my opinion, Government sector and private firms should work together for the innovation of new vaccines and medicines for the betterment of the society and that way the benefits are available for the whole society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you favour government taking primary responsibility while supporting cooperation with private firms. You address both sides, explaining that public funding can prioritise illnesses with limited commercial appeal and that companies can contribute resources, technology and speed. These are relevant reasons, and the vaccine example helps illustrate the public role. However, the discussion is unevenly developed: the private-sector paragraph lists advantages but gives no specific example, and the role of individuals in the question is not really explored. The conclusion also introduces collaboration as a solution without explaining how responsibilities might be shared. To strengthen the response, develop each main point with a concrete example and clarify how individuals fit into your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signposted by “on the one hand” and “on the other hand,” and a conclusion. The reader can follow the main progression from public-interest funding to private-sector strengths. Some linking is mechanical, however, and transitions such as “Additionally,” “As a result,” and “moreover” sometimes connect points without showing their precise relationship. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as in “by this” and “that way,” where the reader must infer what the phrases refer to. Paragraphing is appropriate, but the conclusion repeats the preference for government and then adds cooperation. Use more precise links and references, and make the final paragraph synthesise rather than restate the earlier points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “medical science,” “financial profit,” “pharmaceutical companies,” “vaccines,” and “innovation,” which makes the argument understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “societal benefit” and “advancing medical science.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or awkward: “medical examination” does not express research, “research venture” is unnatural here, and “bring to a market” is not idiomatic. Some repetition of “government,” “research,” and “society” also limits flexibility. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main ideas, but they reduce precision. Build a bank of natural academic collocations and check whether each chosen word fits its context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession in the introduction (“Although…”) and a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “As a result.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “one of major advantage” (article and plural form), “Government should primarily responsible” (missing verb), and “illness… includes” (agreement and sentence construction). Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as seen in “i,” “on the one hand,” and “moreover” after full stops. These errors sometimes make sentences less smooth, although the overall meaning is generally clear. Practise accurate article use, subject–verb agreement, and complete verb phrases, then proofread sentence boundaries and capital letters.
