Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response makes a relevant choice: it favours government research because medicines could be supplied through public hospitals at prices poorer people can afford. This gives the essay a basic position and a reason connected to the question. However, the opening is largely unclear and appears to describe a chart rather than introduce an opinion essay, while the conclusion gives a confusing, qualified position about when private companies should receive projects. The discussion of individuals is not developed, and the main argument is repeated rather than supported with a specific example or fuller explanation. The response also falls 13 words short of the required minimum. Address all three options clearly, state one consistent position, and develop it with a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

The labelled sections—introduction, overview, body details and conclusion—show an attempt to organise the response, and the body does contain a reason followed by a consequence for poorer patients. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the introduction and overview refer to trends and data that are not part of this task. Connections between ideas are often unclear, and the conclusion does not clearly follow from the body. Linking phrases such as “while mean” and “in rear case” do not establish the intended relationships, while repeated references to private and government companies make the argument feel circular. Use a conventional essay structure, with each paragraph focused on one point, and connect claims and explanations with clear, accurate transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response attempts vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “medical research projects,” “government hospital,” “advantages,” and “high cost.” These choices show awareness of the subject, but the range is basic and repetition is frequent, particularly of “project,” “companies,” and “medical.” Numerous spelling errors and inaccurate word choices make parts of the message hard to understand, for example “individuls,” “medican,” “persion,” and “perchase.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “deliver the project to the private companies” and “the prices were not rise.” Build a more precise set of topic phrases and check spelling; for example, use “fund research,” “develop medicines,” and “affordable treatment” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to form longer sentences and express cause and contrast, as in the explanation that private medicines may be too expensive for poor people. However, sentence structures are often incomplete or difficult to interpret, and control of basic grammar is inconsistent. Examples include “the medical project were giving,” “the poor people were does not purchase,” and “the government were dilleverd,” which show problems with verb forms, agreement and sentence construction. Articles, plurals and punctuation are also frequently missing or misplaced, making it hard to identify where one idea ends and another begins. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using clear clauses such as “because” and “therefore.”
