Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a consistent opinion that government should fund medical research, and you offer a relevant reason: publicly funded medicines may be more affordable, whereas private companies may seek profit. This addresses the central choice in the prompt. However, the response only partially develops the task: the contrast is repeated several times, while the role of individuals is not discussed and the examples remain general. The explanation about future viruses could be extended with a specific illustration of how public research benefits people. The response also contains 215 words, which is 35 words below the required minimum. To strengthen the answer, address all three funding options, explain each main reason more fully, and include a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

Your response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to two contrasting points and a conclusion. Phrases such as “on the one hand,” “on the other hand,” and “in conclusion” help signal the intended organisation. However, progression is limited because the same affordability argument is repeated in the second body paragraph and conclusion without adding a new point. Some links are also awkward or unclear, particularly the long sentence beginning “on the other hand if any company give funded.” Use shorter sentences to separate claims and explanations, and make each paragraph serve a distinct purpose—for example, one paragraph on government funding and another comparing private and individual funding. This would make the argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use a small set of relevant terms, including “medical research,” “funded,” “medicine,” “expensive,” and “normal people,” so the main topic is generally understandable. However, vocabulary is limited and repetitive, especially in the repeated references to government, funding, and ordinary people. Several spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to interpret, such as “eranged,” “praspacted,” “affort,” and “decition.” Some combinations are also unnatural, including “give this funded” and “take this funded.” Build a more precise range for discussing research finance and public access, and check spelling carefully. Using accurate phrases such as “allocate public funds” and “affordable treatment” would make your ideas clearer and more appropriate for an academic essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example with “because” and “if,” but these complex attempts are often faulty, and most sentences contain grammatical errors. Problems include missing or incorrect verbs (“it very good for people”), subject–verb agreement (“company invest”), articles and plurals (“a number of virus”), and sentence boundaries. The opening sentence is especially difficult to understand because its clauses are not formed clearly. Punctuation and capitalisation are also inconsistent, making long stretches harder to read. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with one clear subordinate clause. For example: “If the government funds research, new medicines may be more affordable.” This will help you express your reasoning without losing clarity.
