Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You attempt to answer who should fund medical research and state that public authorities should support biotechnology, while also acknowledging contributions from individuals and companies. The examples of DNA research and penicillin are relevant to medical science, but they do not clearly demonstrate why one funding source is preferable or how the different sources should share responsibility. Your position is difficult to identify in the opening, and the discussion remains limited and under-developed. The response also does not meet the required minimum of 250 words, which restricts how fully you can explain and support your ideas. To strengthen the response, state your preference directly, give reasons for it, and develop each reason with a clear explanation and a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some paragraphing: the response moves from an opening statement to government support and then to private and individual funding. This gives the reader a basic sense of topic grouping. However, the progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow, and several ideas are placed together without clear links, such as the list of genetics, vaccinations, drug development, agriculture and food security. Connectors including “furthermore,” “moreover” and “for example” are used, but they do not consistently show the relationship between the points. The opening is also hard to interpret, so the overall argument lacks a clear direction. Organise the essay around a stated position and a small number of reasons, using each paragraph to explain one main point and its example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt topic-specific vocabulary, including “biotechnology,” “genetic engineering,” “vaccinations,” “drug development” and “financial support.” These terms show an effort to discuss medical research rather than relying only on general language. However, the range is limited and many expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the intended meaning difficult to understand. For example, “clinical plans” and “rich guy supports scientific study” are not suitable academic expressions, while “foof security” and “ailmentssave” contain spelling or spacing problems. Aim for precise, conventional collocations and check spelling carefully. Replacing informal or unclear phrases with terms such as “research projects,” “wealthy donors” and “food security” would make the argument clearer and more appropriate in tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to combine ideas using longer structures, including “I believe that public authorities provide financial support…” and clauses introduced by “for example” and “who.” However, sentence boundaries and grammatical relationships are often unclear, and there is little evidence of consistently controlled sentence forms. For instance, the opening contains fragments and an unclear question structure, while “in addition new innovations, invention must taken” lacks a clear subject–verb pattern and an auxiliary in the passive construction. Articles, verb forms and punctuation are also frequently inaccurate, as in “who become fist antibiotic.” These errors often make the reader work to interpret the message. Practise writing complete sentences with one main idea, then check subject–verb agreement, articles, verb forms and full stops.
