Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this era, numerous medical reasearch programs are funded by private troupes. Many thinks that research should be carried by private companies. While, other thinks that it should be done by government. From my perspective, this responsiblity should be hauled by government becuase it should be government priority to take care of citizens. Additionally, it will be more affordable for poor individuals.

To begin with, taking care of residents is duty of government instead of private companies. That is the main reason that government should funded in research. There are lot of dangerous diseases such as cancer, TB etc in the world which needs research on it.In addition, this procees reqiured lot of money that is the another reason of my point of view. If

government spend money on research, scientists will work on finding new medeicines.

While on the other hand, government fund on inquiry will make medicine affordable for everyone in the nation. Sometimes, private troops sell medicine for profit. Moreover, the research of sme medicines take lot of money which results as expensive in price which will be more difficult for poor citizens. If a medication of rare disease are expensive, it will be helpful to make alternative of it by the help of government fund.

To wrap up, sometimes, private companies done great job on medical research. However, I assume that government should take the leading role for this duty due to it is their responsibility. Furthermore, it will be more beneficial for those who can not afford expensive mediction for thier treatments.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you believe government should lead medical research, mainly because protecting citizens is its responsibility and public funding could make medicines more affordable. You address the choice between government and private companies, and mention relevant examples such as cancer, tuberculosis and rare diseases. However, the reasons are asserted more than explained: for instance, you say government research will produce new medicines, but do not show how public funding would make this more likely or accessible. The comparison with private companies is also brief. The response is 245 words, so it falls five words short of the 250-word minimum; the eight words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop one example and explain the affordability argument more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main position remains understandable. The body paragraphs broadly separate the responsibility argument from affordability. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes weak: the first body paragraph moves from government duty to disease examples and then to research costs without clearly connecting these points. Some linking phrases are mechanical or confusing, especially “While on the other hand,” which combines two contrasting signals, and “To begin with” is followed by ideas that are not fully developed. Improve cohesion by making each paragraph follow a clear claim–explanation–example sequence and using fewer, more precise transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “medical research,” “dangerous diseases,” “scientists,” “medicines” and “rare disease,” so the reader can follow the general subject. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or spelling errors make the writing less clear, such as “private troupes/troops” for companies, “hauled” for handled, and “inquiry” for research. Errors such as “reasearch,” “procees” and “mediction” also reduce accuracy. Some phrases are unnatural, including “government fund on inquiry” and “expensive in price.” Build a more precise set of collocations for funding, research and access to treatment, and check spelling carefully before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including conditional forms such as “If government spend money on research, scientists will work…” and “If a medication… are expensive…”. These attempts show an effort to express cause and consequence, but errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. Examples include “Many thinks” and “other thinks,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect, and “government should funded,” which has an incorrect verb form. There are also problems with articles, plurals and sentence boundaries, as in “There are lot of dangerous diseases… which needs research on it.” Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then build longer sentences with correct agreement and verb forms.
