Student answer (Band 5.5)

As the problems related to medical fields are increasing so the need of medical projects is also increased to solve those problems. These problems are diseases mostly which can take a man's life. These Medical projects are the great resource to save human's life. In many countries, specially the developed ones, these projects are funded by government because the government has enough resources to afford such expensive projects. A project needs many experts regarding that field and the tools as well. In the developed countries, most of the time, government launches Medical projects but the case of non-developed countries is different where the government is unable to afford such projects so the private companies starts affording the projects.

Every government must have enough resources and budget to afford these kind of projects to solve problems in emergency situations. If there's any sought of emergency, government must be capable to find solution as soon as possible. If any private company or any rich individual invest in a project instead of the government, this factor shows the weakness of that specific government. The government should use the tax payed by people of that country must be saved to spend on right time on a good medical project. A project lead by government can help country grow more and more. If government is wasting tax on useless projects, people should raise their voice and question the government about the funding and management department. The government is responsible for such medical projects and problems etc.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You take a position in favour of government funding, and the points about public resources, emergency response and the use of taxpayers’ money are relevant to the question. However, the response addresses the choice only partially: it gives little consideration to whether private companies or individuals might be preferable, and the claim that private investment shows government weakness is asserted rather than supported. Several ideas, such as how government-funded research helps a country grow, need explanation or a specific example. To strengthen the response, state your position clearly in the introduction, compare the options directly, and develop two or three reasons with concrete evidence or examples. This would make your argument more fully responsive and convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: it introduces the issue, discusses government funding and then explains why you believe governments should take responsibility. Linking phrases such as “If” and “because” help show relationships between ideas. However, the progression is limited, with most points placed in two long paragraphs and several ideas repeated, particularly the claim that governments should fund projects. Some connections are unclear, as in the move from private investment to “the weakness” of a government. Use separate paragraphs for your position, supporting reasons and consideration of alternatives. Clearer topic sentences and more precise referencing would help the reader follow how each point supports your conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “medical projects,” “experts,” “resources,” “tax” and “funding,” so the main subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “government,” “projects” and “problems.” Some choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate, such as “the need of medical projects,” “starts affording the projects” and “tax payed.” These can make the argument less precise, even when the intended meaning can be inferred. Build a wider set of accurate expressions for research and public finance, and check collocations and word forms. More precise vocabulary would also help distinguish funding research from carrying it out.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, using clauses with “because,” “where” and “If” to explain reasons and conditions. The main ideas are usually understandable, but errors recur in agreement, articles, sentence construction and punctuation. For example, “the private companies starts” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the government should use the tax payed by people of that country must be saved” combines structures in a way that obscures the meaning. Capitalisation is also inconsistent, as in “Medical projects.” Practise building accurate sentences with one clear main clause and a correctly attached subordinate clause. Proofreading for agreement and sentence boundaries would make your reasoning easier to follow.
