Student answer (Band 6.0)

For the time being, a lot of medical related scientific reseach ventures are accommodated by private companies. In my belief, it is not necessary that who should fund these projects. It is mainly on the respective body, if they are eligible to conduct a research then they have all rights to do so. But it is also fundamental in some ways that government should take more part in funding such projects. I will elaborate my opinion further in the essay.

Medical research projects take years and years of time and also a lot of fundings to facilitate a smooth process, and it is recently observed that private firms are mainly funding these projects. Also the technological advancements and innovations are more evident nowadays, which is giving more confidence to researchers for upholding their work in a sustainable environment. With the gowth of private firms, the fundings also rise and lead to a remarkable outcome. For example, during the outbreak of Covid 19, fundings from big private companies in abroad accommodate the development of vaccines, which was very successful and the numbers of diseased patients were decreased drastically.

Other options for conducting medical research are by the aid of governmental bodies, as they have large revenues and big capital for research purposes. Also ethically it is more essential for them to fund these projects as it will provide profits to economy in return. So, apart from being a choice it is a responsibility of government. Another valid source is self funding, which is mainly on the will power and eligibility of a person if they have enough means to conduct a medical research on their own.

In conclusion, it is not necessary that who should be taking part in funding more or less, but sustainabilty matters a lot. Whether private firms, individual or govenmental bodies are funding, if the means are providing a support efficiently the reseach can be conducted easily.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the question by discussing private companies, government, and individual funding, and your conclusion emphasises that more than one source can support research. The Covid-19 vaccine example is relevant and helps illustrate the potential contribution of private firms. However, the central position is not fully clear: you say it does not matter who funds research, then argue that government should take a greater role, and later describe public funding as a responsibility. These claims need to be reconciled. Some points, especially individual funding, are mentioned but not developed, and the benefits of government funding are asserted rather than explained. State which source you favour, or set out clear conditions for sharing responsibility, then support that view with specific reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs on private and public or individual funding, and a conclusion. The ideas generally follow a sensible order, and signposts such as “For example” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. However, progression is weakened by the changing position: the introduction says the funder does not matter, while the body calls government funding a responsibility. Some linking phrases, including “Also” and “So,” are used mechanically, and the final paragraph largely repeats the opening rather than drawing the arguments together. Make each paragraph advance one clear point and use references or transitions that show how the points relate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “medical research projects,” “technological advancements,” “funding,” and “vaccines,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “sustainable environment” and “remarkable outcome.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “medical related scientific research ventures,” “a lot of fundings,” and “numbers of diseased patients.” Spelling errors such as “reseach,” “gowth,” and “sustainabilty” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations—for example, “medical research projects,” “substantial funding,” and “the number of patients”—and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if they are eligible to conduct a research then they have all rights to do so” and a relative clause in “which was very successful.” Most sentences communicate their general meaning, and errors do not usually prevent understanding. Some grammatical patterns are less controlled, however. For example, “it is not necessary that who should fund these projects” has an awkward clause structure, while “it is mainly on the respective body, if they are eligible” joins ideas unclearly. There are also issues with articles and number, as in “conduct a research.” Practise forming direct, complete clauses and check agreement, articles, and punctuation when combining ideas.
