Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, medical research plays a vital role in improving people's health and treating serious diseases.
Although private companies and individuals can contribute to medical research.I believe that the government should take the leading role because it can ensure public welfare and provide financial support.
Firstly, Government funded research can focuses on diseases that affect a large number of people, rather than those private companies often invest on those project such as rare diseases, where private companies invest high finances, which may receive insufficient attention.
Governments, on the other hand can allocate public funds to research that benefits society as whole, for example government funded studies on infectious diseases can develop vaccines to protect millions.
Secondly, government involvement ake a medical research more affordable and accessible. When a private companies finance research, they may charge a highly price for newly development medicines to recover their investments and make a profits. This can make a essential treatments unaffordable for low income families.
Government support can help to reduce these costs and ensure that life saving medicine can easily available to a wider population.
In addition, government can establish strict regulations to ensure that medical experiments are conducted safely and ethically.
However, private companies and individual shouldn't be excluded from research.Private companies often have advance technology, skill scientists and resources to develop new treatments quickly.Similarly, independent research can introduced innovative ideas and lead to medical research breakthroughs.
Therefore, comparation between governments, universities and private companies would be the most effective approach.
In conclusion, although private companies and individuals make a valuable contribution to medical research. I believe government should play a primary role.It can improve health care and medical discoveries benefits to everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: the government should lead medical research, while private companies and individuals should still contribute. You address the main options and support your view with relevant reasons, including public-health priorities, affordability, and ethical oversight. The example of government-funded infectious-disease research leading to vaccines helps make the argument concrete. This meets the task well, and the conclusion restates your position. To develop the response further, explain some points more precisely: for instance, clarify how public funding can reduce medicine prices, and give a specific example of how collaboration between governments, universities, and companies could work. The point about independent researchers is relevant but receives less explanation than the government’s role.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs explaining the government’s role, a paragraph acknowledging other contributors, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “In addition,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. However, some connections are mechanical, and cohesion is occasionally weakened by unclear phrasing. The first body paragraph, for example, moves from diseases affecting many people to rare diseases without clearly explaining the contrast. The sentence beginning “Therefore, comparation between governments…” also feels abrupt after the discussion of private-sector strengths. Use clearer links to show how each point supports your position, and ensure each paragraph develops one main idea before moving on.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “public welfare,” “infectious diseases,” “ethical,” and “innovative ideas,” which helps communicate the argument. There is also some attempt to use more specific language about funding and access. However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less natural, as in “highly price,” “newly development medicines,” “skill scientists,” and “medical discoveries benefits.” Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “high finances” and “comparation.” Aim to learn vocabulary in accurate phrases and check word forms when editing. More precise choices such as “high costs,” “newly developed medicines,” and “skilled scientists” would make the ideas clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession in “Although private companies and individuals can contribute…” and a conditional clause beginning “When a private companies finance research…”. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make sentences difficult to follow. For example, “research can focuses” has an incorrect verb form, while “government involvement ake a medical research” has problems with the verb and article. Agreement and sentence boundaries also need attention: “a private companies” is inconsistent, and the opening “Although…” clause is left as a fragment before the next sentence. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, verb forms, and punctuation, then proofread each sentence to ensure dependent clauses are attached to a complete main clause.
