Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear overall view that government and private companies should both fund medical research, and you offer relevant reasons: companies can provide money and technology, while public institutions can focus on diseases affecting disadvantaged groups. The pharmaceutical-company example is relevant, but it is general and not explained in detail; the government’s role is also only briefly developed. The final sentence is cut off, leaving the conclusion incomplete. In addition, the response contains 208 words, which is 42 words below the required minimum; the eight words copied from the prompt are not counted. This limits the space available to explain and support your position fully. Develop each side with a specific example and complete the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on private companies, a shorter paragraph on government, and a concluding paragraph. Sequencing words such as “Firstly” and “Furthermore” help signal the development of ideas. However, progression is limited because the government paragraph is very brief, and the conclusion repeats the claim that both sectors should contribute rather than bringing the argument to a complete close. Some links are awkward or unclear, particularly “Regarding government” and “so that it tend them to more research work.” Paragraph development and clearer connections between each reason and its effect would make the argument easier to follow. The unfinished final sentence also disrupts the ending.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “medical research projects,” “vaccines,” “pharmaceutical companies,” and “public institution,” so the reader can identify the subject and main ideas. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the writing less clear, such as “prespective,” “instituation,” “tecnology,” and “pharmacutical.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, including “contribute much in funding” and “sustainable amount of money.” Repetition of “funding,” “research projects,” and “contribute” further restricts variety. Aim to learn accurate collocations for discussing investment and public health, and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help express the contrast between commercial priorities and public needs.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, for example, “Furthermore companies have much competition among them so that…” and “Public institution can focus on diseases that affect large sections of society.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to process. The opening, “there are many research projects are funded,” combines two sentence patterns; write “many research projects are funded” or “there are many research projects funded.” Other problems include “it tend them,” “both institution,” and missing or inconsistent articles and plural forms. Punctuation spacing and sentence boundaries also need attention. Practise building accurate complex sentences with clear subjects and verb agreement, then proofread each sentence for articles, plurals, and punctuation.
