Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays,a large amount of medical research is supported by private company. Some people believe that private company should bear the expences of this research, while others think that the government should take the responsibility. In my opinion, both can play a role , but the government should take care of it.

There are several reasons why the authority should sponsor in medical research. First of all , the main purpose of the government is to protect peoples health. Therefore,it can focus on diseases that may not profitable for private companies .For example research on a rare diseases may not earn too much money to a company, but it can be very crusial for the patients who are suffering from them.In addition, funding came from authority can be proven beneficial for the public health which can cover a basic need of a human being.

However, private company also have a significant role in medical research. They usually have a considerable amount of money that they could spend in technology and skilled researchers. As a result , they can invent new medicines more quickly. For examples, pharmaceutical companies invest a huge portion of money developing new drugs and vaccines.Other than that competition between companies can also encourage them to find new and solutions.

In conclution,I believe that medical research should mainly supported and controlled by government because public health should be the main priority.Although private company also motivated in inventing but they will considered the money more than other things .On the other hand if government provide the fundings it will be easier for them to focus more on peoples health .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you believe the government should take primary responsibility, while private companies can also contribute. You address both sides and give relevant reasons, including the government’s ability to fund research into rare diseases and companies’ access to money, technology and skilled researchers. These points support the task, but some are not fully developed. For instance, the claim that public funding benefits public health is broad, and the example of pharmaceutical companies developing drugs and vaccines is not specific. To strengthen the response, explain how public oversight could ensure research serves patients, and develop a concrete example showing how private investment can accelerate a treatment. The position is present throughout, but fuller support would make it more convincing and complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for government and private-company roles, and a conclusion that restates your view. Sequencing is generally logical, and signposts such as “First of all,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. This gives the essay a coherent arrangement, though some linking is mechanical and a few connections are unclear. For example, “Other than that” introduces competition without showing precisely how it follows from the previous point, while “Although private company also motivated…” is difficult to connect to the conclusion’s main claim. Use transitions that express the exact relationship between ideas, and make references such as “it” and “them” unmistakable. This would create smoother progression between supporting points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “medical research,” “rare diseases,” “public health,” “skilled researchers,” and “vaccines,” and some choices convey the argument effectively. However, the range and control are uneven: several spelling errors and inaccurate word forms or collocations are noticeable, such as “expences,” “crusial,” “conclution,” “fundings,” and “new and solutions.” Phrases such as “bear the expenses” and “a huge portion of money” are understandable but not natural in this context. These issues sometimes make the reader pause, even though the main meaning remains clear. Build a reliable set of topic collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully; more precise phrasing would make the argument sound more fluent and appropriately academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “if government provide the fundings” and a contrast clause beginning “Although.” The essay’s meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence boundaries occur across the response. Examples include “private company should,” “private company also have,” “research should mainly supported,” and “they will considered”; these need plural or article choices and correctly formed verbs. Punctuation spacing and missing spaces after full stops also affect accuracy. Aim to make the basic clause structure reliable before adding complexity: check subject–verb agreement, use “be” where a passive is intended, and proofread each sentence for complete verb phrases. Greater accuracy would allow your structural variety to work more effectively.
