Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In your opinion, do you think that research should be carried by private companies, individuals or government?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In current era, most of the medical researches are funded by private companies. This is not the good sign for the welfare of the society.

Private companies has taken the medical field because they wanted to make a good wealth from this no matter its good for society are not.Thats why medicine is so expensive nowadays. For instance during COVID-19 the private companies earn a lot of money from the vaccine of COVID-19 by making the contracts with other countries Medical research should be taken by government it's so beneficial for society.

Many of the pioneers and researchers have given a lot to medical research. For instance Alxender Fleming discovered pencilin which saves a lot of lives.Jabar bin hayan and many others like that which are the building blocks of the medical field. However nowadays people have not so much funds and other equipments for that. This research must be taken by government so that the trust of people on government is high.

Government must equip the medical research field this is so beneficial for the society . Because they taxing the people and that tax should be apply on these people's . That's method is so good for the benefits of mankind. Government must be separate funds for that field . In this way people get a cheap medicines.Another advantage of that is people build trust on government and that will be good for countrys development.

In conclusion,my personal opinion is the medical research field is taken by government but if all these individuals private companies and government all work together than its very best and it is very beneficial for the people of mankind.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is identifiable: you argue that government should lead medical research because it can prioritise public welfare and make medicines more affordable. The examples of COVID-19 vaccine profits and Fleming’s discovery are relevant, and you also briefly acknowledge that different groups could work together. However, the response only partly develops the task. It focuses mainly on government versus private companies, while the role of individuals and the proposed cooperation in the conclusion are not explained. Several claims, such as government funding increasing public trust, are asserted rather than supported with a clear explanation or example. Develop each main reason with a specific link to the question, and make your final position consistent with the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate body paragraphs and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally group related points, and connectors such as “For instance,” “However” and “In conclusion” help signal examples and shifts. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the first body paragraph moves from private companies’ motives to vaccine profits and then abruptly to the recommendation for government research. Some links are also unclear, particularly the sentence about historical researchers and the claim that their work builds public trust. Repeated references to government and society make the argument feel circular. Organise each paragraph around one clear reason, then explain and illustrate it before moving to the next point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “medical research,” “vaccine,” “pioneers,” “funds” and “benefits of mankind,” so the reader can understand the general subject and your position. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the intended meaning less clear. For example, “make a good wealth” and “the building blocks of the medical field” do not express the ideas naturally, while “equip the medical research field” is imprecise. Spelling errors such as “pencilin” and “Alxender” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of collocations for funding, public health and affordability, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a reason clause beginning “so that” and a conditional idea in the conclusion. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in basic sentence structures, agreement, articles and punctuation. Examples include “Private companies has taken,” “This is not the good sign,” and “they taxing the people”; these forms make the reader pause to interpret the meaning. Some sentences also join ideas without a clear grammatical link, as in “Jabar bin hayan and many others like that which are the building blocks.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and complete sentence patterns first, then use a small number of complex structures with clear clause boundaries and consistent punctuation.
