Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this modern world of science, alot of importance is given to medical research. Number of projects are going world wide in the field of medicines and these projects are funded by private companies, individuals or government. Some people believe that research projects are funded by private companies which help them to manipulate the medical science field. So, these projects must be funded and monitered by governments. In my opinion, research should be carried by privated companies.
Private companies have more capital to invest and they have more specific field knowledge than the governments which help them to bring the new findings. Main goal of the private companies is advancement and better new technologies and information which gives them uper hand over other rival companies. So, for achieving the edge over other companies, they invest more money in R&D (Research and Development) which in long run help the people as they get not only early cure to disease but also better cure.
Some people believe that a financial strong company can invest more than others and than can have edge over others which can lead to monoply. But on the other hand other companies will also try there best to bring ground braking technology or finding to fill up the gap in the market. In either case, it helps the common person to get hand on newest and best information and technology. For example, during the COVID-19, number of multinational companies were doing research on there own to prepare the antivirus. This helped the citizens all over the world as every company was trying to prepare the antivirus first and cheap and easy to afford so that people and government buy from them.
In conclusion, it is better for people if big private companies invest in medical research. It will not only benefit the companies themselves but also people who will use advance facilities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you argue that private companies should fund medical research, and you give relevant reasons, including their investment capacity, specialist knowledge and competition to develop treatments. The COVID-19 example also helps illustrate your point. This meets the task well, but the discussion is not equally developed across all aspects. The prompt asks you to consider private companies, individuals or government; individuals receive almost no attention, and the concern about monopoly is raised but not examined in depth. The claim that companies will make treatments “cheap and easy to afford” also needs support. To strengthen the response, compare the three possible funders and explain more carefully how private investment can be balanced against public access and oversight.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs develop reasons and a counterpoint, and the conclusion restates your position. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking phrases such as “on the other hand,” “for example” and “in conclusion” help guide the reader. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. In the second body paragraph, “But on the other hand” repeats the contrast, while “In either case” does not clearly identify which situations it refers to. The opening also introduces the concern about government monitoring, but this thread is not developed later. Use more precise referencing and transitions, and make each paragraph’s central point explicit so the argument flows more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “medical research,” “capital,” “R&D,” “monopoly” and “ground breaking technology,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There is also an attempt to use less common expressions such as “edge over other companies.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word choices are noticeable, limiting the range and control. Examples include “alot,” “monitered,” “privated,” “uper hand” and “antivirus”; in this context, “vaccine” or “treatment” would be more accurate than “antivirus.” Phrases such as “get hand on newest” are also not idiomatic. Aim for accurate collocations and proofread spelling, while choosing precise medical and business terms rather than relying on broad phrases such as “better new technologies.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including relative clauses (“which help them to bring the new findings”) and contrastive structures (“But on the other hand…”). Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make relationships between ideas less clear. For example, “Number of projects are going” needs an article and a more suitable verb construction, while “which help them” does not agree with the singular noun “knowledge.” In “a financial strong company,” the adjective placement is incorrect, and “every company was trying … so that people and government buy” shifts tense and has an unclear subject relationship. Review articles, subject–verb agreement, adjective order and consistent tense, then check long sentences for clear clause structure.
