Student answer (Band 5.5)
Medical research is important for improving public's health. Both government and private companies can provide support to healthcare sector. I believe that government should take the main responsibilty, while private companies can also contribute.
To begin with, government should invest in medical research because it benefits everyone. First, government can help poor ill patient who does not afford treatment. As the higher authorities have all data about how many people does not get medical care due to its expensive treaments. For example, The government should fund in medical research because it can make treatment affordable for everyone. Furthermore, government can focus on serious diseases rather than only making profits. They can fund into serious problems such as cancer, diabetes mellitus and new vaccine.
However, private companies also plays essential role in healthcare sector. They have modern technology and skiiled scientists. These private companies invest more money in developing new medicines quickly. For example, private companies can help medical research because they have money, technology and more skilled scientists. In addition, private companies can also develop more hospitals and clinics in rural areas. This can provide healthcare facilities to everyperson and everywhere. Consequently, private companies plays important role in medical research.
In conclusion, although private companies should invest money in medical research because they have new technology, I believe that government should take the main responsibility and the private companies should support it. This cooperation can improve healthcare and more affordable.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: the government should take primary responsibility, with private companies contributing. You give relevant reasons, including affordability, attention to serious diseases, and companies’ access to technology and scientists. However, several points are asserted rather than explained. For instance, the example about government funding repeats the claim that treatment can be made affordable, and the point about companies building rural hospitals is not clearly connected to who should conduct medical research. The response therefore addresses the question, but some parts are less fully developed than others. It is also 10 words below the required minimum. To strengthen the response, explain how each example supports your position and develop the comparison between government and private funding.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for government and private companies, and a conclusion that restates your view. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. Some connections are less effective, though. The sentence beginning “As the higher authorities…” does not link smoothly to the preceding point, and the example that follows largely repeats the same idea. “Consequently” also introduces a conclusion about private companies without clearly advancing the argument. Improve progression by making each paragraph follow a claim–explanation–example pattern, and use pronouns such as “they” only when their reference is unmistakable.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “medical research,” “treatment,” “serious diseases,” “technology,” and “skilled scientists,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific terms, such as “diabetes mellitus” and “rural areas.” However, the range is somewhat limited, and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “invest in” is more natural than “fund in,” “everyperson” is not correctly formed, and “responsibilty,” “treaments,” and “skiiled” are misspelled. Repeated use of “government,” “private companies,” and “important” also makes the vocabulary less varied. Build a small set of accurate collocations for discussing funding, access, and medical innovation, and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use mostly straightforward sentences and attempt some longer structures, including “although private companies should invest money…,” which helps express contrast. Meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and agreement occur across the response. For example, “government should invest” and “private companies also plays” show inconsistent article use and subject–verb agreement; “poor ill patient who does not afford treatment” has problems with number and clause structure. The sentence beginning “As the higher authorities…” is also incomplete as written, and “This cooperation can improve healthcare and more affordable” lacks a parallel grammatical form. Practise accurate plural noun phrases, verb agreement, and complete complex sentences, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
