IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In your opinion, do you think that research should be carried by private companies, individuals or government?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In the recent days private companies are more interested by doing most of medical research project, overall the private companies spend lot of money on these projects and the most time they get a good result and they win money from this research but for authority may be spend a lot of money without any return so in my opinion the best way to do the medical project is to collabe between the private and the gouvernment.
on the first hand, private companies are capable to work for medical project with their own money so they dont need to wait the government send them there budget and the doctors don't take their all capacity if the gouvernment give them limited budget. so when the private companies take the responsability it will be more confortable to take research and get more of equipment to work for example most of Medicines companies they are private and they create all the medicinces for sick people and they Success on that .
in the other hand, some times the government must work on some medical project and control these companies and see if they work coorectly or they cheat only to make money , in addition there is a lot of case that must the government work with private comapnies to make success for example on corona it must be to create an medicine as soon as possible so they are many authority work with there private companies to make this medicin and save the world like china the us french and others.
in my opinion, it must be collaboration between the authority and private companies first to check the quality and combating cheating and to get the fastes result and share the knowledge between them
in conclusion, the private companies are capable to do any project and they have the equipment and all the nessesary things but also the govenrmrent can make the deffence and work also on this projects so in my opinion it must be a collab between them to get the seccess and make a goord result.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a clear overall opinion: medical research should involve collaboration between private companies and government. The response also addresses both sides, noting that companies can provide funding and equipment, while government can monitor research and help prevent cheating. The examples about medicine companies and cooperation during the coronavirus pandemic are relevant. However, several points remain general or unclear: the claim that companies “win money” is not explained, and the examples do not show specifically how collaboration improves research outcomes. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation or a concrete example, and state your position more consistently from the introduction through the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, an opinion paragraph and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify your main position and the different roles of companies and government. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several ideas are joined in long sentences, and the links “on the first hand” and “in the other hand” are inaccurate and repetitive. Some connections between claims and examples are also abrupt, particularly the move from government oversight to the coronavirus example. Use clearer topic sentences, divide long sentences, and choose linking expressions such as “on the one hand,” “on the other hand” and “for example” accurately.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “medical research,” “budget,” “equipment,” “quality” and “share the knowledge,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “private companies,” “government” and “project.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, such as “medicinces,” “collabe,” “fastes” and “make the deffence,” which sometimes make the intended meaning harder to follow. Build a more accurate set of topic expressions and check spelling carefully. More precise choices such as “fund research,” “regulate companies” and “develop treatments” would make your argument clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to express reasons and relationships using longer sentences and clauses, for example when explaining that companies can fund projects without waiting for government budgets. However, these complex attempts are often faulty, and sentence boundaries are frequently unclear. In “private companies are more interested by doing,” the verb pattern is incorrect; “they dont need to wait the government send them there budget” also lacks the required grammatical structure. Errors with articles, verb forms, agreement and punctuation occur throughout, making some sentences difficult to read. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “because,” “while” or “which.” Check each sentence for a clear subject and verb, and use full stops to separate complete ideas.
