Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays many medical researches are funded by the private companies. In my opinion, I think that research should be carried by government. As different research projects we need alot of funding which everyone can't afford. If government facilitates the funding more researches would be done and everyone is interested in doing different new medical related projects. Private companies charged alot of amount for the research. When they provide funding they demand that their name is also included in the research even though they did not done any single work, they just provide the funding.

As I am working in a healthcare facility and I want to do research on a project but I dont have any funding so I am not doing it because of funding only. All the other elements have finished but due to limitation of funds I cannot proceed for the research.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You state a clear preference for government funding and give relevant reasons: research can require substantial resources, and your own inability to proceed with a healthcare project illustrates the problem. However, the response addresses the task only partially. It does not explain why government funding is preferable beyond access to money, and the claim that private companies demand credit is not developed or supported. The prompt asks you to consider whether research should be funded by private companies, individuals, or government, but individuals are not discussed. The response is also 105 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to develop the argument and provide a fuller example. Explain the alternatives and extend each main reason with specific consequences or evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The ideas are generally understandable and follow a basic sequence: you give your position, explain the need for funding, raise a concern about private sponsors, and then offer a personal example. The final example is relevant and helps connect the issue to your experience. However, the response is presented as one paragraph, so the argument lacks clear stages, and progression between points is limited. The opening moves quickly from government funding to private companies without a clear transition, while “As I am working…” introduces the example abruptly. Use separate paragraphs for your position and reasons, then your example and conclusion. Linking phrases such as “By contrast” or “For instance” would make relationships between ideas clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic topic vocabulary to communicate the main point, including “funding,” “research projects,” “healthcare facility,” and “limitation of funds.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, such as “alot of funding,” “different new medical related projects,” and “alot of amount.” These choices make the argument sound less precise and sometimes awkward, although the central meaning remains understandable. Aim for more accurate academic collocations, for example, “substantial funding,” “medical research,” and “high fees.” You could also use terms such as “public funding,” “research grants,” and “commercial interests” to discuss the different funding sources more specifically.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate your main ideas using mostly simple sentence patterns, and you attempt a conditional structure in “If government facilitates the funding more researches would be done.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect fluency. Examples include “many medical researches” (uncountable “research”), “the private companies” (unnecessary article), and “they did not done” (incorrect verb form). The conditional sentence also needs a comma after its opening clause, and “As I am working…” is a fragment because it does not form a complete sentence with the following idea. Practise accurate articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, then combine simple sentences into controlled complex structures.
