Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, the trend of funded medical research projects is increasing. While some people disagree with this, I strongly believe that research should be carried by private companies, individuals or governemnt. This essay with discuss the reasons of my opinion.

The primary reason is that funding helps people to conduct their research projects conveniently. There are many great ideas by some of the intelligent minds that are unable to start their experiments due to lack of resources. For instance, if a students want to start a research project on the side effects of certain pharmaceutical drug, he will need a considerable amount of money to complete his expermient in terms of equipments, specimens and a highly equipped laboratory. Therefore, government or private companies should give people a chance to explore their potential and prove their skills.

Another compelling reason is that great research projects funded by companies or government will ultimately give them profit. For example, if a company gives money for a research project, after the successful completion of project, they will get recognition globally. Furthermore, a successful research project increase their market demand as well.

By contrast, some people think it is a waste of money. As if a project fails, a comaony will never be able to recover its resources.

In conclusion, although some people disagree with that, I firmly believe that money should be invested in medical research projects by private companies that will not only help the students to grow professionally but also open doors of opportunities for both.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You state a position in the introduction and conclusion, and give relevant reasons about enabling research and the potential benefits to funders. However, the response only partially addresses the question: it says research should be funded by “private companies, individuals or government,” but the body mainly discusses companies and government, without explaining the role of individuals or comparing the options. The point that projects may fail is introduced briefly and not developed or answered. The conclusion also shifts to supporting private companies specifically, leaving your position less consistent than it first appears. The response is 243 words, seven words below the 250-word minimum. Develop each reason with clearer explanation and a relevant example, and make your preferred funding source explicit throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a brief counterargument and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “The primary reason,” “Another compelling reason,” and “By contrast” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression is limited because the counterargument consists of only one sentence and is not connected to a response, while the conclusion repeats the general position without resolving the contrast between funding by several groups and favouring private companies. Some linking is mechanical, and “This essay with discuss” does not clearly guide the reader. To improve, organise the body around distinct, fully developed points and use referencing and transitions to show how each point supports your stated position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “medical research projects,” “resources,” “side effects,” “recognition globally,” and “market demand.” Phrases such as “explore their potential” and “open doors of opportunities” show attempts to express ideas beyond basic vocabulary. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, including “trend of funded medical research projects,” “give people a chance,” and “a research project increase their market demand.” Spelling errors such as “governemnt,” “expermient,” and “comaony” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the main ideas from being understood, but they limit precision. Build a more reliable range of collocations for funding, conducting research, and commercial outcomes, and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional example beginning “if a students want to start” and a contrast clause introduced by “although.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “a students want” has incorrect number agreement, “a successful research project increase” needs a singular verb, and “This essay with discuss” has an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “As if a project fails” is also not grammatically integrated with the preceding point. Use a wider range of structures with more reliable control, especially when forming conditionals and linking contrast or cause. Check subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries during revision.
