Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent decades research programs are in demand and due to that private organization rase funds for new projects. Although private companies give fundings to the individuals, researchers did not use their findings for their own. Therefore, I opine that is should be funded by the government.

To begin with, private organizations only fund to individual for get their rights, whereas if government provide fundings to new findings, people use their own research for them selves and it help country to grow. For example, in Germany government support PhD programs by giving them incentives on monthly bases and also they help them to grow their research projects till it's final result. As a result, international talent come to Germany and get their desired outcomes.

Furthermore, in modern era, private companies see research topic first and then they provide funds. On the other hand, government do not have any criteria for research funds, therefore, more and more people can get funds for their project and it motivates people towards new findings. For instance, in India government support new projects by giving small fundings for their projects during their studies. Moreover, in colleges they encourage students to find new ideas for research. As a result, new generation get involve in findings that helps them to grow their brains.

To conclude, while self organized companies give money for get rights of new project, government give them without any benefits of their selves. Moreover, it helps people to keep their research on their own, that helps country to grow internationally.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you believe medical research should be funded by government, and both body paragraphs give relevant reasons, including wider access to funding and support for researchers. The examples of Germany and India help make the argument more concrete. However, the response only partly develops the task: it does not fully compare government funding with funding by individuals, and the claim that government has “no criteria” is asserted rather than explained. Some points also need clearer links to medical research specifically, since the examples refer broadly to PhD programmes and student projects. To strengthen the response, explain how public funding benefits medical research and develop the comparison with private companies and individual funders more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two supporting paragraphs and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally focus on one main reason, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore” and “To conclude” make the stages easy to identify. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical: repeated “As a result” statements announce consequences without fully showing how the preceding example supports the argument. Some connections are also unclear, particularly the shift from private companies funding individuals to researchers using findings “for their own.” The conclusion repeats the main position but adds little synthesis. Use clearer cause-and-effect links, refer back to the specific point being developed, and make each example lead directly to a stated benefit for medical research.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a range of topic-related terms, including “research projects,” “funds,” “international talent” and “desired outcomes,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, vocabulary is limited in precision, and several noticeable word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make parts awkward or unclear. Examples include “rase funds,” “give fundings,” “fund to individual,” and “grow their brains.” The repeated use of “fundings,” “research” and “projects” also limits variety. Aim to learn common academic collocations and use them accurately—for example, “provide funding for researchers” and “support research projects.” More precise terms such as “public grants,” “commercial interests” and “medical breakthroughs” would also help you express the argument more clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including contrast clauses beginning “Although” and “while,” and use examples to extend your points. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in phrases such as “government provide,” “it help country,” and “new generation get involve.” Articles and sentence construction are also inconsistent, as in “fund to individual for get their rights.” These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles and verb patterns. For example, revise “government provide fundings” to “the government provides funding,” then apply the same pattern consistently.
