Student answer (Band 5.5)

Over the course of time, a significant shift in research sponsers is resulted particularly in medical field. A question which usually arose in mind of every citizen at some point is whether medical research should be self sponsored, private sponsored or goverment should cover all expenses. I personally believe government should take of all expenses in this regard.

On one side, medical researched has evolved significantly over the course of time. One significant shift recorded in medical research is that private sponsorship increased vastly. Private companies are now sponsoring many medical research to gain profit and fame . Prime examples are painkillers which were initially produced for human benefits but generated a lot of revenue for sponsor companies as their products recorded significant growth finincially as demand increased.

However, self sponsored research has certain limitations like it is hard to generate sufficiant revenue to cconduct research on broader levels. Self sponsored research result in conclusions which will have limitions and lack universal adoptation.

Medical research resulted in beneficial results for humanity as cures of many ill and deadly deseases was discovered by researchers, even vaccinations were developed for certain deseases like polio, small pox etc

In conclusion, i argue government should take care of all medical research expenses and provide suitable environment to conduct research. In this way i believe many more researchers will be encouraged and many beneficial results will be found for humanity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear in the opening and conclusion: you believe the government should fund medical research. You also mention private sponsorship and self-funded research, and the examples of painkillers and vaccines are relevant. However, the response only partially develops the task: it does not explain the government’s advantages in detail, and the discussion of private companies focuses mainly on profit rather than weighing their role against public funding. The point about self-sponsored research is brief and not clearly connected to your preferred approach. The response is 15 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop and support your reasons. Add a developed explanation of why public funding is preferable and a specific supporting example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and phrases such as “On one side,” “However,” and “In conclusion” signal changes in direction. Nevertheless, the progression between ideas is not consistently clear. The first body paragraph describes private sponsorship, while the next shifts to self-funding, but neither is followed by a developed explanation of why government funding is the best option. The paragraph about medical discoveries also feels disconnected from the argument because its relevance to public funding is not made explicit. Some linking phrases are mechanical, and the conclusion largely repeats the opening position. Organise the body around two clear reasons for government funding and connect each example directly to the claim it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “medical research,” “private sponsorship,” “revenue,” “vaccinations,” and “researchers,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “significant shift” and “universal adoption.” However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “sponsers,” “sufficiant,” “limitions,” and “deseases” are examples. Several phrases are also unnatural, including “research sponsers,” “generated a lot of revenue for sponsor companies,” and “beneficial results for humanity.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, such as “research funding,” “generate substantial revenue,” and “benefit public health.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “A question which usually arose in mind of every citizen” and a contrast introduced by “However.” Meaning is generally understandable, but errors in sentence construction and verb forms are frequent enough to affect clarity. For example, “a significant shift … is resulted” uses an incorrect passive form, and “government should take of all expenses” is missing a verb element. In “medical researched has evolved,” the subject and verb form do not fit, while “cures … was discovered” has a subject–verb agreement error. Articles and punctuation also need attention, as in “in medical field” and the space before the full stop after “fame.” Practise checking each sentence for a complete, correctly formed clause.
