Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the modern age, the use of medicines has been increasing day by day as people are now totally relying on the medicines instead of natural remedies. But unfortunately, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. I believe that the government should encourage and fund these projects. Whereas some people people believe that these projects should be funded by private companies. Both statements have valid arguments. This essay will discuss both point of views.

Many private companies and individuals are funding the medical research projects only for the sake of charity because they believe that their small contribution can help a lot of people to get rid of getting diseases which is good to a great extent. But sometimes, there are also some issues with the medicines or machines and sometimes they do not provide the high-quality medicines due to the shortage of funds. Therefore, these projects should be funded and managed under the government's authority to ensure its accuracy and quality. For instance, if scientists are studying to make a X-Ray machine, if any tool is missing, they may be unable to complete their task. Therefore, there must be a complete allowence for these projects.

The government should pay attention to it and should provide a particular contribution for these projects so that more computer-based machines and medicies of better quality can be provided to the individuals. It can be beneficial in reducing the diseases as well as overcoming the factors that causes these diseases.

In my perspective, I firmly believe that it's a very good that many private companies and individuals contribue to the medical research projects, but it is the responsibility of the government to find the crucial projects.

In conclusion, although many medical research projects are funded by private companies. The government must fund these projects for the benefits of human-beings.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You state a preference for government funding and oversight, and you give relevant reasons, including quality control and the need to provide equipment for research. However, the task asks you to consider whether research should be carried out by private companies, individuals, or government. Your discussion focuses mainly on funding and does not clearly explain who should conduct the research or compare the roles of all three options. The claim that private contributors act “only for the sake of charity” is also too broad and is not supported. The conclusion repeats your preference but does not resolve these gaps. Develop a clear position on both who should conduct research and who should fund it, then support each main reason with a specific, plausible example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion, and signposts such as “For instance” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the general direction. However, progression is uneven: the first body paragraph moves from charitable funding to medicine quality and then to a missing tool, without clearly connecting these points. The second body paragraph introduces computer-based machines but does not develop the idea, while the final opinion paragraph largely repeats the introduction and conclusion. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Therefore” and “should.” Organise each body paragraph around one distinct reason, explain how it supports your position, and use clearer references so that examples and claims connect directly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “medical research projects,” “quality,” “scientists,” and “diseases,” which makes the subject clear. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “government’s authority” and “particular contribution,” but these are not always natural or precise in context. Several word-choice and spelling problems reduce accuracy: “get rid of getting diseases,” “allowence,” “medicies,” and “contribue.” The repeated use of “projects” and “government” also limits variety. Build a more precise range for discussing research funding and oversight, and check spelling and collocations. For example, describe companies as seeking “commercial returns” rather than assuming they contribute only for charity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “because,” “if,” and “although,” and the main message is generally understandable. However, errors occur in sentence construction, agreement, articles and punctuation. For example, “Both statements have valid arguments” does not clearly refer to the options, and “the factors that causes these diseases” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence beginning “In conclusion, although…” is a fragment because the concessive clause is not joined correctly to the main clause. There is also an awkward conditional example beginning “if scientists are studying to make a X-Ray machine.” Practise complete complex sentences, check singular and plural agreement, and proofread punctuation, especially around introductory clauses.
