Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a clear overall view that government and private companies should work together, and you discuss relevant advantages and drawbacks: companies can contribute funding and technology, while government can prioritise affordability and safety. However, the task asks you to consider whether research should be carried out by private companies, individuals, or government, and the role of individuals is not meaningfully addressed. Several points are asserted rather than explained—for example, how government control would make medicines safer or how joint work would benefit poorer patients. The response is also 49 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop and support your position. Explain the role of each option and add a specific example to extend your reasoning.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body sections signalled by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a concluding paragraph. This helps the reader follow the main comparison. However, progression within the second body paragraph is uneven: the discussion moves from company profits to government aims, then returns abruptly to private companies’ budgets and technology. The conclusion also repeats the idea of cooperation without clearly drawing together the preceding points. Some links are mechanical, and references such as “Because of their money” and “This is why” do not always make the relationship between ideas precise. Group related points together and use clearer links between cause, contrast, and result.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “vaccines,” “scientists,” “medicine prices,” and “safe,” so the reader can understand the general subject. However, the range is limited and several spelling errors or inaccurate word choices make the writing less clear, such as “reserch,” “profils,” “machicines,” and “badgets.” Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, including “a good,” “finish research faster,” and “save money” where the intended meaning appears to be saving lives. Build a more accurate set of topic collocations, such as “conduct medical research,” “develop treatments,” and “make medicines affordable.” Proofreading spelling and checking whether each word expresses your intended meaning would improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Most sentences use simple structures, and the main position is generally understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. There are errors in sentence formation and agreement, for example, “Other feel that is a government or individuals should do this word” and “Private companies very help ful for all poor and rich people.” The sentence beginning “Because of their money” is a fragment, while “The government must also fund and control research for save money” uses an incorrect verb pattern. Punctuation and spacing are also unreliable, particularly around commas and full stops. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use a few controlled complex forms to explain reasons and contrasts. Careful editing for articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries will make your ideas easier to follow.
