IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In your opinion, do you think that research should be carried by private companies, individuals or government?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent years, private companies allocated funds for numerious research projects in medical field.I strongly believe that medical research projects should be carried under government supervision instead of individuals or private companies.
The first and foremost reason behind this is that, medical research projects funded by government would give relief for people. The grant provided by govrnment will ultimately lower the cost of medicine. Foe instance, recently, corona vaccines projects were under the government's hand, so the price of prepared anitnode was cheap. Moreover, it was easilly accessible by loer-income population. In addition, the government can efficiently supervised, keep an eye of clearity. Moreover, people will be aware of the accountability in case of any misuse. For example, from selected members of research project if any memeber leak the information to competitors, or sold medicine in illegaly. Government would take strict action against him that is rarely seen in private companies or individually. The main reason for this is that they are more afraid of their defamation than justice.
Another reason is that ,government will give the projects to people who really meet the merit. Although, it will be difficult to maintain for private companies or indiviually. They would have the immense pressure of reference, they can not take the decision fairly. For instance, in private companies mostly for high profit projects, they mostly considered their friends or any other colleague havinf contact with high officials. While capable students and individuals can not get the opportunities.
To conclude, I am strongly in favour that medical research projects should be carried by goverment, so their will be equal facilities for rich and poor. Another key point, the prices of medicines would be cheap that will half of offered by private companies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you favour government-supervised medical research, and the conclusion restates this view. You give relevant reasons, including affordability, public accountability and fairer access to research opportunities, with examples such as vaccine funding and the selection of researchers. This addresses the task and shows some development. However, the support is uneven: the vaccine example is brief, and the point about private firms favouring contacts over merit is asserted rather than explained or evidenced. The discussion also focuses mainly on government funding and supervision, with little direct comparison of research led by individuals. To strengthen the response, explain how each example supports your argument and address the alternatives more explicitly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion. The main line of argument is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “Another reason” and “To conclude” help readers identify the stages. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, particularly with repeated “Moreover” and repeated references to government. Some links between ideas are unclear: the sentence beginning “For example, from selected members…” does not clearly connect the possible leak or illegal sale to the preceding point about accountability. The second body paragraph also moves quickly from merit to pressure from personal connections. Use clearer topic sentences and more precise referencing, and explain the relationship between each example and its claim.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “government supervision,” “accountability,” “competitors,” and “merit,” and you attempt to express ideas about access, cost and fairness. However, the range and control are limited by frequent spelling errors and inaccurate word choices, which sometimes make the reader pause: “numerious,” “govrnment,” “anitnode,” and “clearity” are examples. Several phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “under the government's hand,” “keep an eye of clearity,” and “their defamation.” Aim to learn accurate topic-specific collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise phrasing would help you express your argument without relying on repeated general words such as “projects” and “people.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “Although” and “if,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, control is inconsistent, especially in longer sentences. For example, “the government can efficiently supervised” has an incorrect verb form, while “they can not take the decision fairly” has an awkward article and sentence pattern. The fragment beginning “For example, from selected members…” also lacks a clear grammatical structure, and the final sentence, “the prices of medicines would be cheap that will half of offered,” is difficult to interpret. Review verb forms after modal verbs, articles, and how to join clauses. Breaking complex ideas into complete, clearly punctuated sentences will improve accuracy and readability.
