Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the modern world, many medical research projects are handled by private organizations. Nowadays medical research is more crucial because it aware people about different disease. Some individuals argue that research should be carried only by government but i believe that medical investigation should be carried by both, private organizations and government.

On the one hand, private companies have many benefits for the the research.Private firms have a lot of money and advanced technology. They can do research very fast because they want to make profit. For instance, during covid 19 some private companies like pfizer and moderna made vaccenies very fast in a year. This can be done because they had huge funding. However, private companies can hire best scientists from all over the world and they make every research sucessful.

On the other hand, government research is also important. The main reason is that government should not work for profit it work for people. Private companies only work on those research that make them profit like diabetes and cosmetics treatement. In contrast government should work on rare disease. For instance, government can fund for malaria and TB. Additionally, government research is more trust worthy because private companies hide some negative effects to make profit.

To sum up, medical research should be carried by both private firms and government beause both have their own advantages. From my perspective, the best solution is that both should work together. Government should gives money and make rules and private companies use their technology. Resultantly, it is more beneficial for individuals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you support medical research being carried out by both private organisations and government, and you return to this view in the conclusion. You address the alternatives in the question and give relevant reasons, including private firms’ funding and technology, and the government’s responsibility to investigate less profitable diseases. The examples of COVID-19 vaccines, malaria and TB help make the argument concrete. To strengthen the response further, develop the claims with more explanation: for example, clarify how government oversight can address concerns about companies concealing side effects, and avoid broad claims such as private research being “successful” simply because firms can hire leading scientists. Overall, the ideas are relevant and supported, though some are generalised.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs consider private and government research respectively, and the conclusion recommends cooperation. The contrast between “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” makes the organisation easy to follow, while “For instance” introduces relevant examples. The conclusion also brings the two strands together by assigning funding and rule-making to government and technology to private companies. To improve the flow further, make links between individual claims more explicit and avoid abrupt transitions, such as moving from hiring scientists directly to saying that this makes research successful. Some linking phrases are predictable, but the paragraphing and progression remain clear and logical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “advanced technology,” “huge funding,” “rare disease,” and “negative effects,” and the reader can understand your main points. However, the range and precision are uneven, with noticeable spelling and word-choice errors such as “vaccenies,” “sucessful,” “beause,” and “trust worthy.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “it aware people” and “cosmetics treatement” do not convey the intended meaning smoothly. Aim to learn common academic collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise terms for research, funding, oversight and medical conditions would help you express the argument with greater flexibility and reduce the effort required of the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including contrastive clauses and explanations with “because.” This allows you to present both sides of the argument, and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. However, errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, articles and punctuation occur repeatedly. For example, “it work for people” needs a correctly formed verb, while “government should gives money” has an incorrect verb form. The opening sentence “because it aware people” is also grammatically incomplete. Capitalisation and spacing around punctuation are inconsistent. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb, and use a wider range of complex structures only when you can control them accurately.
