Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In your opinion, do you think that research should be carried by private companies, individuals or government?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
nowadays many medical research projects are funded by the private companies. in my opinion medical research should be the both government and private companies because each has unique benefits for society.
on the one hand , private companies play very important role in medical research. private businesses usually have a lot of money and modern technology. this allows scientist to develop new medicine and medical equipment quickly.for example private pharmaceutical companies invest heavily in creating new vaccine and treatment because they want to make profit the work very hard and efficiently to bring new products to market, however a major problem with private funding is that companies only focus on profitable diesaor health problems that effect poor people because there is no financial benefit.
on the other hand government funding is essential for public health. government care about the well being of all citizens not just profit.therefor state founded research often focused on important public issues and diseases in developing countries. government grants also support universities and independent scientists who do long term research that might not take money immediately.
in conclusion i believe that neither a private companies nor government alone are enough.
private companies bring speed, money, and innovation, while government ensure fairness abd focus on public health, therefore a combination of both is the best approach for advancing medical sciences.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address the question and state a clear position: medical research should involve both government and private companies. The two body paragraphs give relevant reasons, including private investment and technology, and government support for public-health priorities and long-term research. However, some points are less fully developed: the example of vaccine development is general, and the concern that companies neglect diseases affecting poorer people would benefit from a specific illustration or explanation. The conclusion restates your view effectively. The response contains 214 words, so it is 36 words below the 250-word minimum; the eight words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Use the extra space to develop your examples and explain how the two funding sources can complement each other.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for private and government funding, and a conclusion. The contrast markers “on the one hand” and “on the other hand” help readers follow the comparison, while “in conclusion” signals the final position. However, some connections are mechanical, and punctuation sometimes obscures the relationship between ideas. For example, the private-company paragraph moves from investment to profit and then to neglected diseases in a long, crowded sequence. Break this into shorter sentences and make the contrast explicit. Also ensure each paragraph develops one main point in a clear order, using references such as “this funding” or “these priorities” where appropriate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “medical equipment,” “pharmaceutical companies,” “public health,” “government grants,” and “long term research.” These choices make the main ideas clear, and terms such as “profitable” and “independent scientists” show some ambition. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “diesaor” and “effect” where “affect” is intended. Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “make money immediately” and “advancing medical sciences.” Improve accuracy by checking spelling carefully and choosing standard collocations, for example “yield immediate financial returns” and “advance medical science.” This would make your vocabulary more precise without requiring unnecessarily complex wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including the conditional explanation “This allows scientists to develop…” and the relative clause “research that might not…”. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems remain. For example, “the both government and private companies” has an incorrect article structure, and “government care” needs subject–verb agreement. Several sentences run together, particularly the sentence beginning “for example private pharmaceutical companies,” so use full stops or semicolons to separate complete ideas. Capitalise sentence beginnings and the pronoun “I,” and check articles and plural forms, such as “new vaccines.” More consistent control of these basics would make your varied sentence structures clearer.
