Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the modern era majority of the medical research projects are funded by private companies. In my opinon the medical research should be carried by governments.

One of the main reason why i disagree with that medical reseach projects are funded by private companies because if private companies funded for medical research, they will charge extra money from patients. However, In the developing countries, majority of the peoples are middle class and lower middle class. So that they don't have enough money for taking better treatments. For example, a lower class patients not afford the operation and maintainace cost of a private hospitals. As a result, most of the people secrifies their lives without taking proper treatments.

On the other hand, If the government should funded for medical reasearch, disadvantageous family will take benefit from them. Because modern medical equipments and accessories will available for all types of patients in the government hospitals. Low income family patients can also take proper treatment from a governments hospitals. For instance, If government hospital have well equiped and modern testing materials, patients will have benefited from them in the low cost. Also individuals of a country also contributed for it by donating money in the government funds.

In conclusion, Although private comapanies have enough money for funding in the medical research, government and individuals should take initiative for funded of it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear in the opening and conclusion: you believe governments should lead medical research, with individuals also contributing. You give relevant reasons about affordability and access, and the example of low-income patients using better-equipped public hospitals supports your view. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the claim that private funding leads to extra charges needs explanation or a specific example, and the role of individuals is mentioned only briefly. The response also does not fully explore the choice between private companies, individuals and government. It contains 219 words, which is 31 words below the required minimum; the nine words copied from the task prompt are not included in this count. Develop each main point with clearer explanation and support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting funding arrangements, and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow the general argument. You also use signposts such as “On the other hand,” “For example,” and “In conclusion.” However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical or unclear. The first body paragraph begins with a long, confusing sentence, and “So that” does not connect the preceding idea naturally. In the second paragraph, the shift from government funding to individual donations is abrupt. Some references, such as “them” in “patients will have benefited from them,” are not fully clear. Use simpler links between cause and result, and give each paragraph a more focused sequence of claim, explanation and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the central ideas, including “medical research,” “patients,” “treatments,” “government hospitals,” and “low income.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “modern medical equipments” and “testing materials.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts difficult to understand, including “disadvantageous family,” “maintainace cost,” and “secrifies their lives.” Spelling errors such as “opinon,” “reseach,” and “comapanies” are noticeable. Some phrases are also unnatural, for example “funding in the medical research.” Build a more precise set of expressions for affordability, public provision and research funding, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if private companies funded for medical research” and a contrast clause beginning “Although.” This shows an effort to vary sentence forms. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships unclear. Examples include “One of the main reason,” “If the government should funded,” and “a governments hospitals,” which show problems with agreement, verb forms and articles. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly the capitalisation after commas in “However, In” and “If” mid-sentence. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and conditional patterns, and make sure each sentence has a clear main clause before adding subordinate ideas.
