Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify medical research as important for improving lives and mention serious illnesses such as cancer and heart attacks, so the response is relevant to the topic. However, the question asks you to choose among private companies, individuals, and government, and your position is unclear: you refer to private companies and government but do not explain which should take responsibility or why. The example of illnesses is named rather than developed, and there is no supporting explanation or personal/real-world example. The response contains 111 words, below the required 250; 19 words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count. To strengthen your answer, state a clear choice, explain two reasons, and develop each with a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening statement is followed by a paragraph giving reasons and examples. The repeated references to medical research and saving lives help keep the topic in view. However, the ideas do not progress clearly, and the second paragraph repeats points from the opening rather than adding a distinct reason. Connectors such as “because” and “example” are used, but the relationships between ideas remain difficult to follow; for instance, the sentence beginning “in the contaxt” moves between funding, the value of research, and the writer’s opinion without a clear sequence. Use separate paragraphs for your position, reasons, and conclusion, and link each example directly to the point it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
Your vocabulary includes relevant topic words such as “medical research,” “funded,” “illness,” and “saving lives,” which show that you can communicate the general subject. However, the range is basic and repetitive, with “medical research” and “life/lives” appearing several times. Some spelling and word-choice errors make parts of the message hard to interpret, including “inmortance,” “contaxt,” “campanies,” and “sugar tv.” Aim to use a wider set of accurate terms for funding and health, such as “public funding,” “clinical trials,” and “treatments.” Check spelling carefully and choose precise examples: for instance, name diabetes rather than the unclear phrase “sugar tv.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to express reasons using clauses with “because,” and the reader can recognise the general message that research helps people and saves lives. However, sentence structures are mostly simple or run together, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries frequently make the meaning unclear. For example, “medical research play” needs subject–verb agreement, while “medical research is play in importance role” combines incompatible verb patterns and lacks an article. The long final sentence also needs clearer punctuation and clause structure. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then join related ideas with a correctly formed clause, such as: “Medical research saves lives because it helps doctors develop effective treatments.”
