Student answer (Band 4.0)
i think this is the right practice of private companies funding the research because it comes under their corporate social responsibility and ig also helps them woth the further knnovation, we cant let it only be a responsibility of government because government has limited resources and also cannot go deep into the domain because of lack of experienced resource. a private company is already deep into their field work and they understand the dynamics a lot more than anyone can which helps them innovate further, an issue that may occur with them doing a research is that they

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You take a clear position in favour of private companies funding medical research and give relevant reasons: they have limited resources, specialist experience and knowledge of their fields, and research may support innovation. However, the response is incomplete and does not develop these points with examples or explain the possible drawback you begin to introduce (“an issue that may occur…”). It also does not compare the roles of individuals and government, so the question’s alternatives are not fully addressed. The response is substantially below the required length, which leaves the argument minimally developed. To improve, complete the discussion, support each reason with a specific example, and state whether government or individuals should also have a role.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has a discernible central line: private companies are presented as better placed to fund research because of their resources and expertise. Linking words such as “because,” “and,” and “also” show some attempt to connect reasons. However, nearly all the ideas are packed into one long sentence, with no paragraphing or clear separation between the position, supporting points, and qualification. The final clause stops abruptly, so the argument has no conclusion and its progression is difficult to follow. Organise the response into an introduction, separate body paragraphs for reasons and any counterpoint, and a conclusion. Use a wider range of links and clear referencing to show how each point relates to your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “corporate social responsibility,” “limited resources,” “experienced resource,” and “dynamics,” which helps communicate your general argument. There are also spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural expressions, such as “woth,” “knnovation,” and “go deep into the domain.” “Experienced resource” is unclear when referring to people, while “dynamics” does not precisely explain what companies understand. The short response also gives little opportunity to demonstrate a broader range of vocabulary. Aim for accurate spelling and more precise collocations, such as “specialist expertise,” “conduct in-depth research,” and “industry-specific challenges.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to connect several reasons in a complex sentence, using clauses introduced by “because” and “which.” This shows some ability to express relationships between ideas. However, the response relies heavily on one run-on sentence, and punctuation does not clearly separate the clauses. The opening “i think” needs a capital letter, and “a private company … they understand” shifts from singular to plural reference. The final clause is unfinished, leaving the sentence incomplete. Use full stops to control sentence length, check subject–pronoun agreement, and vary sentence structures with accurate simple and complex sentences. These changes would make the argument easier to read and demonstrate more reliable grammatical control.
