Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this modern world, many researches that are being conducted on medical projects are financially supported by private companies. This essay will discuss the researches drawbacks private companies, individuals and governments can make. From my perspective private companies should remain in-charge of the medical researches.

It can be argued that, the governing bodies carrying medical researches, will focus on the universal health, and epidemic prevention. They will take in account all the sectors of the society, poor or rich. Another initiative that authorities would have to make, will be, early detection of epidemics, followed by instant tests to identify the source of the epidemic before it outbreaks. Making the ministry responsible for the medical researches, could end up in corruption. For instance the financial resources required for the research purposes, might be used by governing bodies for their personal use. On the other hand individuals carrying medical analysis can be burden on them as they are not able to afford the financial resources and carry a study on a large scale, of population.

In my opinion the study of medical should be carried out by the private companies as they have all the necessary resources; laboratory, products, financial resources, equipment's, and drugs necessary for the well being of human being. Additionally they can be sued if anything they sell can cause danger to a human's life. Moreover there is a constant check by the governing bodies on these type of companies. For instance a private company sells a product, just to gain popularity or for profit, these type of companies can be sealed with the order of government. Due to these factors, private companies don't take risk in selling fake or harmful products.

In conclusion, private companies in todays world are carrying out the medical studies. From my perspective the authentic research of medical should be the duty of private companies with the rules, regulations and constant check by the government.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you argue that private companies should conduct medical research, with government oversight. You address all three options by noting that governments may prioritise public health but could misuse funds, while individuals may lack the resources for large-scale studies. These points are relevant, and the examples about epidemic detection and product safety help explain your view. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. The risk of government corruption is asserted rather than supported, and the claim that companies avoid harmful products because they can be sued or closed needs clearer explanation of how this ensures reliable research. Develop these points with specific reasoning and distinguish research from the sale of products.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph considering government and individual research, a paragraph supporting private companies, and a conclusion. The progression from alternatives to your preferred option is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “On the other hand,” “Additionally,” and “Moreover” signal relationships between ideas. At times, however, cohesion feels mechanical or the connections are unclear. The opening says the essay will discuss the “drawbacks” of all three options, but the body also presents advantages of government research. In the second body paragraph, the move from company resources to legal accountability could be linked more explicitly. Use topic sentences that accurately preview each paragraph and clearer references to avoid repeating “these type of companies.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “epidemic prevention,” “financial resources,” “laboratory,” and “constant check by the governing bodies.” These choices make the subject understandable, and you attempt more formal expressions such as “universal health” and “authentic research.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “many researches” should be “much research” or “many research projects”; “researches drawbacks” is unclear; and “the study of medical” is not idiomatic. “Products” and “resources” are also repeated, while “well being of human being” is awkward. Aim to learn common academic collocations such as “conduct research,” “public health,” and “large-scale studies,” and check whether a noun is countable before using it in the plural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including conditional structures (“if anything they sell can cause danger”) and clauses explaining consequences. The main argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “the governing bodies carrying medical researches, will focus” has an unnecessary comma and an awkward clause structure; “they are not able to afford … and carry a study” needs parallel construction; and “these type of companies” has a number-agreement error. Articles and possessives also need attention in phrases such as “a burden on them” and “a human’s life.” Review sentence boundaries and punctuation, especially commas separating subjects from verbs, and practise building accurate complex sentences. More consistent control of these patterns would make the argument smoother and easier to read.
