Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, it is often argued that many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In my opinion, research should be carried by government because the government can facilitate better than private companies and individuals.
Research projects plays a very vital role in the development of any country. Many medical research projects are funded by private companies but government should provide them all the facilities that are mandatory for that particular project. Additionally, the government accumulate the whole country's revenue and it will be easy for them to help the researchers to find out new ways in every field of life such as medical , technology. However, a private company is run by the private owner and he can use it for his own purpose. Here can be a big issue for the individuals as well as private company and that is the issue of higher salary. For instance, the USA is the only country where the wages of medical researchers are higher than any other field.
Many researchers ask for higher salary and a company have a lot of researchers in that company and paying them higher salary is not easy for them but this is not a big problem for government because they collect the money from the whole country.Furthermore, the machinery that is used in medical research projects are so pricey and it is imported by other nations and for any private company or individuals, it is not possible but the government can manage those expenses.
In conclusion, i believe government should be helpful for the medical research projects because they can afford the cost of machinery and they can provide them all the facilities that is not easy for individuals as well as private companies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you believe governments should lead medical research because they can provide facilities and meet high costs. You give relevant supporting points, including researchers’ salaries and expensive imported machinery. However, the response only partly develops the task: it does not clearly compare the merits of government, private companies, and individuals, and the example about US wages is not explained enough to show how it supports your argument. The claim that government can “facilitate better” also needs specific explanation, such as how public funding can support research with little immediate commercial value. Develop each reason with a clear link to your position and a more relevant, explained example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an identifiable structure, moving from your opinion to supporting reasons and then a conclusion. Paragraphing helps separate the main position from the discussion of costs, and connectors such as “Additionally,” “However,” and “Furthermore” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within the body paragraphs is not always clear: the discussion shifts from national revenue to private owners, then to salaries and machinery without consistently explaining how each point connects. Some linking is mechanical, and references such as “Here” in “Here can be a big issue” are unclear. Organise each paragraph around one main reason, then explain and illustrate it before moving to the next point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “medical research projects,” “researchers,” “revenue,” “machinery,” and “expenses.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “in the development of any country.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural or imprecise, including “carried by government,” “facilitate better,” and “pricey.” Repetition of “government,” “private company,” and “higher salary” also restricts flexibility. Aim for more precise academic expressions and vary repeated terms where appropriate. Check word forms and spelling, including “accumulate” in this context and “technology,” so that your intended meaning is consistently clear.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, using clauses with “because,” “but,” and “that,” and the overall meaning can generally be followed. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “Research projects plays” has subject–verb disagreement, while “a company have” and “the machinery … are” also show agreement problems. In “government should provide them all the facilities that is mandatory,” the relative clause does not agree with its plural noun. Several sentences run together without spaces after full stops, and “i” should be capitalised. Practise accurate sentence boundaries and agreement, then build more varied complex sentences with careful proofreading.
