Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main trends and provided data points for the four countries. However, the response lacks a clear overview paragraph, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher. While you mention the UK and Portugal, you miss the opportunity to synthesize the overall trends (e.g., the general decline in the UK and Sweden versus the upward trend in Portugal and Italy). Additionally, some data points are slightly inaccurate or confusingly phrased, such as the description of Sweden's decline. To improve, ensure you include a summary paragraph immediately after the introduction that highlights the most significant differences and trends across the entire period.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. Phrases like 'even though' and 'while' are used, but the transition between sentences is often abrupt. The lack of an overview makes the logical progression feel disjointed. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' 'Subsequently') to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that relates back to the main trends.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision required for higher bands. You rely on repetitive phrasing such as 'carbon emission' and 'decline.' There are also some spelling errors ('emssion', 'remind condtsnt') and awkward collocations ('had the had had'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' (e.g., 'fluctuated,' 'surged,' 'plummeted') and ensure you are using technical terms accurately. Proofreading for basic spelling errors is also essential to avoid distracting the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include missing articles ('in the year 1967'), incorrect verb tenses ('it has had stead decline'), and punctuation errors. The sentence structure in the second paragraph is particularly repetitive and contains several errors in subject-verb agreement. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensure that your verb tenses are consistent when describing past data. Reducing the number of run-on sentences will also significantly improve the readability of your writing.
