Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all four countries and the time period, identifying some main features. However, the analysis is inconsistent and lacks precision. For instance, the description of Italy's trend as 'never increased more' is vague and inaccurate based on the graph. The overview is missing; a summary should highlight the most significant trends, such as the UK's downward trajectory versus the overall growth in Portugal. The report relies on listing data points rather than synthesizing the information into clear, comparative trends. To improve, focus on grouping countries by their shared patterns (e.g., those that declined versus those that grew) and ensure the overview clearly states the most prominent changes over the 40-year period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into two paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'In the last', they are often used incorrectly or in a way that does not enhance the flow of ideas. The transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'It started to surge from 1997 to 2007', where the subject 'It' is ambiguous. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear focus, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of the four countries effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'increase', 'rise', and 'fall'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and incorrect collocations, such as 'dischargeed', 'outflow of carbon dioxide', and 'constant use of carbon dioxide'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the message. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'declined steadily', or 'remained stable'. Expanding your range of synonyms for movement and change will help you describe the graph more professionally and accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with article usage ('In italy', 'In the last'), verb tense consistency ('It started to decline... It will be decreased'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain errors in basic syntax, such as 'United Kingdom release CO2 more in 1967 other than three countries'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the errors in subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are noticeable throughout. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for tense consistency would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
