Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You covered all four countries and highlighted the key differences, such as the UK's decline versus Italy's growth. However, the response could be improved by providing more precise comparisons between the countries at specific points in time. For instance, while you mention the UK and Portugal, you could explicitly compare their emission levels in 1967 to better highlight the contrast. The data points are generally accurate, though ensure that your descriptions of trends (e.g., 'upward trend') are consistently supported by the figures provided to fully satisfy the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Apart from this', and 'After analyzing the graph'. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions between sentences. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be smoother. For example, the transition between the description of Sweden and Italy is somewhat abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the other three countries') is always clear will help elevate your score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information, using terms like 'metric tonnes', 'upward trend', and 'steadily grew'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'reached by near about' and 'followed upward trend' (missing an article). Additionally, some phrasing is repetitive. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable'. Focusing on accurate collocations and avoiding minor errors in word form will significantly improve the clarity and sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding articles (e.g., 'in UK', 'in Sweden'), prepositions ('reached at'), and subject-verb agreement. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas in several places. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, focus on mastering the use of articles and ensuring that your verb tenses are consistent when describing past data.
