Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You highlighted the United Kingdom's consistent lead and the convergence of Sweden and Portugal by 2007. However, the response lacks precision in data reporting. For instance, you mention 'most tones of gas' without specifying the unit (metric tonnes) or the exact starting point for the UK. Additionally, the description of Sweden's trend as 'horrible' is subjective and inappropriate for an academic report; you should use neutral, analytical language. To improve, ensure you include specific data points to support your comparisons rather than relying on vague descriptions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'overall', 'on the other hand', and 'in the last 20 years'. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical phrasing and punctuation errors, such as the comma splice in the first paragraph ('...Portugal, In the year...'). The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is functional, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be improved by using more varied linking words to connect the data points more fluidly rather than listing them sequentially.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision required for a higher band. Phrases like 'highest stake in emission' and 'most tones of gas' are imprecise and slightly unnatural in this context. You also use informal or emotive language such as 'horrible' to describe statistical trends, which is not suitable for an academic report. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations related to data description, such as 'significant decline', 'fluctuated', or 'reached a peak'. Spelling is generally accurate, but the word choice often feels repetitive.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('the numbers goes down'), incorrect article usage ('in United Kingdom'), and punctuation errors (comma splices and missing periods). Some sentences are also fragmented or awkwardly phrased, such as 'Italy have a increasing line in the picture'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
