Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence ('ranging from'). While you have attempted to identify some main features, such as the UK being the highest and Portugal the lowest, the data reporting is inconsistent and lacks the necessary detail for all countries mentioned in the prompt. To improve, ensure you complete the summary for all categories and provide a more thorough analysis of the trends, including specific data points for the start and end years to support your observations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is disrupted by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'overall', 'at fleeting glance', and 'moving further', but some are used incorrectly or sound unnatural (e.g., 'at fleeting glance'). The progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of completion and the fragmented structure of the final section. To improve, focus on using transition signals more naturally and ensure that each paragraph is fully developed before moving to the next, maintaining a consistent structure throughout the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'calibrated into tons' and 'took jump', which do not accurately describe the data trends. Additionally, there are errors in terminology, such as referring to the countries as 'state'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a downward trend'. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and nouns will help you communicate the information more effectively and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with article usage ('the united kingdom'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, which makes the text difficult to follow. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the existing simple sentences often contain errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct capitalization for proper nouns and consistent verb tenses when describing past data. Proofreading for basic errors like missing articles and incorrect prepositions will also help improve the overall accuracy of your writing.
