Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response attempts to summarise the main features of the graph, but the information provided is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the statement that the UK was 'widely seen in the last year' is unclear, and the description of Portugal's emissions is factually inconsistent with the provided graph. While the response identifies some trends, the lack of precision in reporting data points (e.g., 'estimately 10 tonnes') and the failure to clearly compare the countries throughout the period limit the achievement. To improve, focus on accurately identifying the starting and ending points and highlighting the most significant trends rather than listing data in a disjointed manner.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'At the fleeting glance' and 'at the last'. Referencing is also problematic; for instance, it is unclear which country is being referred to in the final sentence regarding the 'least carbon emission'. The transition between ideas is abrupt, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the four nations. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring clear subjects for each sentence would significantly enhance the flow of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'caliberated', 'tones' (instead of tonnes), and 'Swedan'. The phrasing is often unnatural, for example, 'gained slightly decline' and 'began experience steady incline'. There is a lack of variety in reporting verbs and descriptive language, which makes the report repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a downward trend', and ensure correct spelling of country names and units of measurement.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include missing articles ('in first year'), incorrect verb tenses ('begin with estimately'), and awkward sentence construction ('the data is caliberated in tones'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence structure prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would be a beneficial next step.
