Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all the requirements of the task by identifying the main trends and making relevant comparisons between the four countries. You have successfully highlighted the overall downward trend for the UK and Sweden, while noting the growth in Portugal. However, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, you refer to the units as percentages (e.g., 'at 11%'), whereas the graph displays metric tonnes per person. This is a significant misinterpretation of the data provided. To achieve a higher band, ensure you accurately identify the units of measurement and focus on selecting the most salient features rather than listing every data point for every year.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'However', 'Moreover', and 'While' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'At he flitting glance', which is not a standard academic transition. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as when you mention 'all three nation' despite there being four countries listed in the graph. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help the progression of your ideas feel more natural and professional.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'consistently', 'fluctuated', and 'substantially'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'proporation' instead of 'proportion', 'decresed' instead of 'decreased', and 'flitting' instead of 'first'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure you proofread for basic spelling errors, as these detract from the overall quality of your lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with articles ('the UK'), subject-verb agreement ('Italy represented... and exceeded a slight increased'), and preposition usage. For example, 'in between the year 1967 and 2007' is grammatically clunky. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on consistent verb tense usage and correct article placement will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
