Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response identifies the main features and trends, such as the UK's decline and Italy's growth. However, the summary is hindered by inaccurate data reporting and a lack of clarity. For instance, the mention of '2017' contradicts the prompt's '2007', and the description of the UK's trend is confusingly phrased. While the key countries are mentioned, the comparison between them is weak. The overview is present but lacks precision, and the data points cited are sometimes difficult to follow, which limits the overall effectiveness of the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often disjointed. Transitions like 'At fleeting glance' and 'Moving ahead' are used, but they feel mechanical and do not always logically connect the sentences. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the sentence structure makes it difficult to track which country is being discussed. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks the logical progression required for a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is limited and contains several inaccuracies. Phrases like 'carbon submission' (instead of emissions) and 'calibrated in metric tons' are used incorrectly. There is also repetition of basic structures and vocabulary. While the reader can understand the general intent, the lack of precision in word choice and the presence of errors in collocation prevent the response from reaching a higher band. More precise terminology related to data description is needed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include missing articles ('in year 1967'), incorrect verb forms ('United Kingdom carries had a highest value'), and awkward phrasing ('which are decrease remain only the 8.5'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing commas. These errors are frequent and occasionally cause the reader to pause, though they do not completely impede communication.
