Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response successfully covers all requirements of the task. You have identified the main trends and provided relevant data points to support your summary. The overview is clear, highlighting the contrast between the United Kingdom's decline and Portugal's growth. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurate; for instance, the graph shows the UK starting at 11 and ending at 9, which you captured well. However, ensure that you consistently use the correct units (e.g., 'metric tonnes' rather than 'metric tones'). Overall, the response is well-structured and addresses the prompt effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a summary. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Finally' to link your ideas, which helps the reader follow the progression of the data. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed analysis. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases further and ensure that referencing is always precise. For example, in the second paragraph, the transition between the UK and Sweden is clear, but the flow could be slightly smoother with more varied sentence structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'predominates', 'gradually decreased', and 'sharply rose'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'metric tones' instead of 'metric tonnes' and 'least producer' instead of 'lowest producer'. While these do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure consistent spelling of technical units.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'United kingdom' (should be capitalized), 'while fall in 1987' (should be 'while it fell'), and 'that continues till 2007' (should be 'which continued'). Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage and verb tense consistency. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly.
