Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends and making comparisons between the four countries. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting; for instance, the student mentions the 'United States' instead of the 'United Kingdom', and the description of the trends for Italy and Portugal is slightly imprecise. The overview is present but could be more clearly articulated to highlight the most significant shifts, such as the convergence of Sweden and Portugal by the end of the period. The response is sufficient to meet the requirements of the task, but the data interpretation lacks the precision required for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In the year 1967', 'After a decade', and 'Moving further', which help guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when comparing countries, which makes the flow of information feel a bit disjointed at times. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the management of cohesion could be more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with attempts to use words like 'inclined', 'downward trend', and 'doubled'. However, there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'preduced', 'preduser', 'continously') and word choice issues, such as 'account same as' instead of 'reached the same level as'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, but the lack of precision and the spelling mistakes limit the score. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends and ensuring accurate spelling of key terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('United Kingdom and Sweden was notice', 'Portugal was least preduser') and missing articles or prepositions ('in last year', 'at near 11 tones'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent and noticeable. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles to improve clarity and accuracy.
