Student answer (Band 6.0)
The graph illustrates the data of average carbon dioxide emissions per person in UK , Sweden, Italy and Portugal between the time span of 1967 to 2007.
The amount of carbon dioxide is in metric ton. UK residents were emitting almost eleven tonnes of carbon dioxide on average from start but it decreased gradually and was close to 9 tonnes in 2007. Sweden showed an abrupt line from 67 to 77 average was constantly increases but after that it showed a sudden drop and was close to six in 2007 while it was 9 in 1967 . Italy showed an ascending trend but the emission was remain constant from 1997 to 2007 started from 4mt and end at slightly less than 8mt.
Portugal illustrates a major increase from 1mt to 5mt in this time frame.
I conclude that Sweden and UK showed a major improvement in controlling the emissions. But Italy and portugal not

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all four countries and identifies the main trends, such as the UK's decline and Portugal's increase. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear overview of the data. The concluding paragraph is incomplete, as the sentence 'But Italy and portugal not' is unfinished and fails to provide a meaningful summary of the trends for those nations. To improve, ensure that all comparisons are fully articulated and that the overview highlights the most significant differences between the countries rather than just listing individual data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by abrupt transitions and incomplete sentences. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices, the connection between ideas is often mechanical. The final sentence is a major issue as it is grammatically incomplete, which disrupts the coherence of the conclusion. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'meanwhile', 'subsequently') to connect sentences more fluidly and ensure that every paragraph concludes with a complete, coherent thought.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic verbs like 'showed', 'was', and 'end'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'abrupt line' and 'ascending trend'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'a significant upward trajectory'. Additionally, ensure that units of measurement are consistently and correctly abbreviated (e.g., 'metric tonnes' instead of 'mt').
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('emission was remain constant'), missing articles ('in UK'), and tense inconsistencies ('average was constantly increases'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of capital letters for country names like 'portugal'. The final sentence is a sentence fragment, which significantly impacts the grammatical accuracy of the conclusion. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring all sentences have a clear subject and verb will help improve your score.
