Student answer (Band 6.0)
The graph depicts the people from different countries are participating towards the emission of carbon dioxide in the years 1967 to 2007.
Overall, United Kingdom is the highest contributor for the emission of carbon dioxide as compared to other nations, whereas Portugal is being the lowest to produced carbon dioxide among other countries over the whole period of time from 1967 to 2007.
To begin with, as we can clearly see that United Kingdom being the dominant contributor of carbon dioxide but, Sweden was merely short by some tons in producing the emission of carbon dioxide in the year 1997, later it dropped significantly over the years. Portugal being the lowest in the start of the year with producing a ton of carbon dioxide then in the consecutive years, it suddenly rose to producing nearly 5.8 tons of carbon dioxide by the end of the year, matching with emissions produced in Sweden.
Moreover, Italy was producing 4 tons of emission of carbon dioxide in the start, later it skyrocketed in the next year producing 6 tons of emissions of carbon, after a decade, Italy was balanced by producing a pace of 7.9 tons of emission of carbon which continued without any change till the final year 2007.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response provides a general overview and identifies key trends, such as the UK's high emissions and Portugal's growth. However, the report is marred by significant inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, stating the UK was the highest contributor 'over the whole period' is contradicted by the graph, which shows Italy overtaking the UK in the latter years. Furthermore, the description of trends is often vague or factually incorrect, such as the claim that Sweden dropped significantly in 1997 or the description of Italy's growth. The response fails to accurately report the main features and comparisons, leading to a lack of clarity in the data presentation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused. Phrases like 'To begin with' and 'Moreover' are used, but the logical flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by confusing data reporting. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when comparing countries. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the internal progression of ideas is hindered by the inaccurate reporting of the graph's information, making the overall coherence feel somewhat disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There is frequent repetition of phrases like 'emission of carbon dioxide' and 'producing'. Some word choices are awkward or incorrect, such as 'participating towards the emission' and 'skyrocketed in the next year'. While the student attempts to use some descriptive verbs, the lack of control over collocations and the repetitive nature of the phrasing limit the score. To improve, the student should focus on using a wider range of synonyms and more precise terminology related to data description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Portugal is being the lowest to produced'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'the people from different countries are participating towards the emission'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction is often clunky. While the meaning is usually discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
