Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main trends and provided data points for the countries mentioned. However, the response lacks a clear, analytical overview. While you mention that some countries 'took the lead', the description of the trends is somewhat mechanical and lacks a comparative focus. You have included data for all four countries, but the reporting of figures is occasionally inaccurate or confusing (e.g., 'after a decade former figure remain constant'). To improve, ensure you group the data more logically—perhaps by comparing the declining trends of the UK and Sweden against the rising trends of Italy and Portugal—rather than listing them chronologically in a way that obscures the overall patterns.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of varied cohesive devices. Phrases like 'To begin with' and 'getting into further details' are used, but the transitions between sentences are often abrupt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the countries. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'conversely', 'in contrast', 'subsequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that flows naturally into the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'data', 'figures', and 'tones'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'swede n' and 'tones' (instead of 'tonnes'), which detract from the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1. To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'gradual decline', or 'upward trajectory'. Using a more varied range of synonyms will help you demonstrate a higher level of lexical control and make your writing more engaging.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The given line chart illustrate', 'both one comes down') and tense usage (e.g., 'it will reached'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and the attempts at complex sentences are often marred by errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces missing or incorrectly placed around commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and using the correct tense for describing past data. Proofreading for these fundamental errors will significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
