Student answer (Band 6.5)
i have asked to intreprate the line graph showing information regarding carbon footprint of single individual of diffferent countries over the years.
This line graph is revealing that portugal and Italy have same trend of increasing carbon emissions per person from year 1967 to 2007, But in italy corbon footprint was more significant than portugal with an increase form 4 metric tonnes to almost 7.8 metric tonnes that is far more than Portugal, where there is increase from 1 metric tonnes to 5 metric tonnes.
on the other hand UK and Sweden showing a decreasing trend of carbon emission but not the same like previous two countries.
UK had shown a contenious decrease from 11 metric tonnes to almost 8.3 M tonnes throughout from 1967 to 2007. But Sweden line is revealing a rapid increase in corbon foot print uptill 1977 from 8.3 metric tonnes to almost 10. and then we can see a sudden and wild drrp in it form 1977 to 2007. that drop is sigficant form any of the other drop by any country form 10 metric tonnes to 5.
however in 1967 and also in 2007 the UK was the only country emitting maximum carbon per person among all these four countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the upward trends for Italy and Portugal and the downward trends for the UK and Sweden. You successfully identified the key data points and made relevant comparisons between the countries. However, the introduction is slightly informal and does not clearly paraphrase the prompt. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview of the main trends in the introduction rather than stating what you are doing. The data points are generally accurate, but the structure could be more refined to ensure a more professional academic tone.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'on the other hand' and 'however' to transition between ideas. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of sophisticated linking words. The paragraphing is a bit unbalanced, with one very long paragraph containing most of the analysis. Improving the use of referencing (e.g., 'the former', 'the latter') and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help elevate the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the trends, such as 'increasing trend', 'decreasing trend', and 'significant'. However, there are several spelling errors ('intreprate', 'diffferent', 'corbon', 'contenious', 'drrp', 'sigficant') and some word choice issues. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. To improve, focus on using more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and ensure you proofread for basic spelling mistakes, which currently detract from the professional quality of the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('in italy', 'in 1967 and also in 2007'), incorrect verb forms ('UK and Sweden showing'), and punctuation issues. Some sentences are slightly disjointed due to these errors. To reach a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement and the consistent use of articles. Additionally, try to vary your sentence structure further by using more complex clauses to describe the data comparisons.
